The PO of my 68 FJ40 had swapped front axles at some point, how can I tell which year it came off of?

I have seen 2 different years described as being compatible for the mini-disc swap... first on pirate they say 69+ and on ih8mud's tech section i see 68+...can someone verify which?

If you have fing birfields in the front axle, then you can swap with only minor grinding to the knuckle opening...*should* be from 1968 and on.

There are really no exterior distinguishing characteristics from a ball and claw front axle housing to a non ball and claw front axle housing from the same era. Just pull one side apart, and you will know what you have for sure. Anything else is useless speculation. There are no BOM(bill of material) numbers on Toyota axles, like what would be found on a Dana..

Good luck!
