Hi all folks .. reading the instalation of the aux tank in a 80 US spec by Romer, jump some question about ..

The system appears to be little diferent IMOP .. but to confirmate I ask if someone have more ideas ..

I thought the Aux tank in the Diesel 80 it's quite simple .. it's asolenoid that change the fuel line ( geting ) from main tank to the seconday one ..

And i was thinking that in the gasssers function in the same way .. but appears not .. appears to passs fuel from the Aux Tank to the second one when you activate the switch ..

Who know if my teory about our diesel system it's right . ?

I was wondering the same thing myself - if and how the diesel system differs from the petrol (gas) setup. I asked the same question on the Aussie outerlimits forum, and the reply i got was that the diesels didnt use a transfer pump, they instead used solenoids to switch their pick up from the main and sub tanks.

Would like see some pictures if anyone can help. Also, it sounds like the fuel outlet on the diesel subtank is larger that the petrols (12mm).

Cheers

I thought the Diesel subtank it's a 18 gal subtank ( not sure .. )

In the same way I thought the system is a swith based system .. but my question it's " when you switch from the main tank to the sub tank, you also allow some air in the line .. ? )

And I just wonder on that coz diesels are very sensitive to air in the fuel line ( the 1HD-T less than my 2H )

I've had 2-60 series Aux. fuel tanks (both Australian origination). Both gassers. The first was gravity feed from the stock tank to the Aux tank. It always had vacuum problems in the system that would eventually starve the carb. #2, same tank, but with a Y-splitter & valve so you can fill one or the other tank, then the Aux. tanks pumps it back into the stock tank. Once I converted to diesel, the only thing I did was to remove the filter between tanks and yank the unleaded restrictor on the filler. I like set up #2. Bob

Where did you get the AUX tank Robert? What's its capacity?

Tom

The gasser 80 series pump fuel from the Aux. tank into the main via a 12v electric pump. the diesels on the other hand have a soleniod that will switch from main to aux when the button is pressed. This was done so that if any damage occured to either tank, they could be isolated, and you would still have one tank to get you out of trouble. they didnt do this on the gas model as toyota did not see people using them for remote travel. There is an exception to the rule tho. the late model (95-97) 1HDFT equiped Sahara VX (top of the line) with dual A/C, had the same tank setup as the gassers, no idea why tho

My tanks: #1 = Man-A-Fre in 94-96 time frame. #2 I ordered direct in 2001 from

http://motorcare.com.au/

Richard was fantastic to work with. This was in 2001 when exchange rates were in US favor. It was about $700US to my door. I'm thinking the tank is just over 17 gallons US, fits between exhaust & driveline on a (2f 60 series). On the HZ we moved it about 2" further outboard.

NOTE: SEE 12ht - Intercooler thread on overheat issues - good news.
