1974 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 – build date 10/73.
Original F.5 engine w/ 3 speed.
I have owned for right at 20 years – rescued from a ranch in South Texas where it had sat in a covered barn at least 10+ years. Odometer broke shortly after I got it. Currently reads 80,444 and I bet I haven’t put more than 1,500 miles on it in the last 20 years.
The good: Great body. Interior has a DIY bedliner in it, but there is no rust at all.
No hard top, but do have the original doors, no glass in them, but all the hardware is available.
Over my ownership, I have base-lined all fluids (several times). Regular oil changes. New clutch master & slave. Brakes redone with new master cylinder, vacuum booster and wheel cylinders all the way around. Replaced radiator, muffler, new belts & hoses. Installed headers. Poly fuel tank, carb rebuild. Seat covers. Lots of new wiring. 33x9.5 BFG all terrain’s with less than 1k miles and I have the original spare as well. I have receipts from both Wimberly 4x4 and Land Cruiser Specialists for all the work that was done.
The not so good: The steering box is a little loose and could use a rebuild. One of the rear passenger brake cylinders is sticking a little bit. Leaks some oil. Front hubs could stand to be rebuilt. She was originally white, then at some point baby blue, when I bought her she was John Deere green.
Other than that, she starts right up and runs great. Runs cool, Has never over-heated, all gauges, lights and signals work. Passes inspection yearly without any issues.
You can drive her like she is, or would be a great candidate for a frame-off due to condition of the metal.
Selling because I don’t have any time to drive her, much less work on her.
Any questions, let me know. Asking $17,500.
