I have a 2000 landcruiser.
I went to a local shop to have my power steering fluid changed out, not flushed.
I gave them a gallon of Automatic transmission fluid DEXRION III to use.
They instead put in Valvoline Synthetic power steering fluid.
I have read online that i should be ok, but I wanted to check with you guys and see if I actually need the Dexron ATF instead?
The user manual says to use Dexron II or III, but that was 22 years ago.
I'm hoping that PSF has advanced since then and that the synthetic stuff is ok.
Thoughts?

Thanks

Power steering in the 100 series should be using transmission fluid and not power steering fluid. The shop should change out the fluid to the correct spec. I would also want them to flush the system a few times to ensure all the incorrect fluid is out.

Thanks! I also called Valvoline to see if this “psf” would be ok and they recommended that I do exactly as you say, “flush it and get the dextron in there instead”. The auto shop told me they messed up and are working on it as we speak.

Nice photos, Joe. You've got some real bangers in there.
