I am about to install some ARB lockers and need to install a compressor.

I run dual batteries so that space in taken. My windshield washer bottle is in the rear passenger side of the engine bay.

Where can I mount the ARB compressor?

Slee makes a mount that goes into the firewall corner. Or if you get landtank's charcoal canister bracket you could mount in that space. Also there is a ton of room behind the bumper (OEM or ARB) that is well underutilized.

I designed a mount for my ARB CMKA12 compressor to be mounted where the stock Jack goes... I'm using it to air up a 4 gallon pancake tank I will be putting underneath for tires and tools...

Meeting with the laser cutter tomorrow and will start offering them soon with all hardware and rubber isolating washers..

Just curious, how are the noise levels inside the cabin with it running?

This sounds like a good mounting solution.

I isolate the mounting with marine grade rubber washers.... compressor to the mount and also mount to attachment points... That combined with the cover panel... Very quiet.

it's not like the compressor runs all the time - you won't mind a minute of BRRRMMM from time to time (like once in 30 minutes or so) if you are wheeling hardcore, since you'll be focused on other things :steer:

I see you're running ARB lockers. I thought the compressor was running the whole time that they were locked.

This is good to know.

Thanks

hey all,
long time lurker, first time poster.
you could consider mounting as I have done
LH rear quarter

The mount started out as a cardboard template from a box of beer. (where all good templates and ideas come from) transferred onto some ally sheet.
It picks up some factory holes in the structure that werent used by the trim clips.
The hose is rolled up near teh bottle jack. I will be adding a small tank later. If you run air lockers you can get solenoid vents and run them overboard the the rubber bung at the bottom of the quarter panel. otherwise you'll get the smell of diff oil. probably need to mount mine a little lower soon, but for now it does the job nice

no, the compressor only kicks in when the reservoir solenoid registers low air pressure in the storage tank- it takes at least three to five times of pushing the locker buttons on my prehistoric 23-year old compressor (on the 40) before it kicks on again - on a newer compressor, it would be even less frequent

just for frame of reference, if memory serves me right: on Golden Spike at Moab, arguably an all day challenging trail, I probably engage lockers some 20-25 times, maybe 5 times for the front as well - the compressor on the 40 may go off, maybe, let's say, 6-8 times (over the course of some 8-10 hours, or so) . . .

I haven't had an opportunity to try that all out on the 80 yet - but a newer compressor should only perform better, no ? :D

BTW, a previous owner told me they would scare people in the mall parking lot when they pushed the ARB compressor button :hillbilly:

I mounted mine near the master cylinder. I used rivnuts to mount it to the firewall.

Here is a pic of the bracket:

For some reason I don't have any photos of the installed finished product, but you get the idea.

Going to be selling mine and plumb everything to my Puma... eventually

Beside the back Seat

Hi all, mine is mounted (PO did it) beside the back seat, so as you see it when you open the RH back door.
and by teh way, you can fold the back seat with no trouble at all

Ozzycruiser... does the compressor hit the skin or mount when it runs? That is a great use of that space and you keep the factory jack, but when I looked to mount mine there it just didn't seem like there was wiggle room for the vibrations... and you can't get the cylinder vertical (ideal but not necessary) for longest life...

Hmmmm..... great solution.

I know this was years ago...but did you ever make a bracket to mount the arb compressor in the jack compartment? I'd be interested! Thanks
