Apron to lower fender on narrow nose

I'm currently re-assembling apron with fender, both have been repaired so there is some fitting going on. They maybe not match perfectly but not too bad.
Sure enough it is not going to be weatherproof, kind of metal to metal joint. How was it from factory, was there an seam sealer applied over that "joint" (apron over lower fender) and a coat of "gravelguard" over everything in the wheel arch?

I made sure to paint things well, then used asphalt roof cement like seam sealer.

There is a Toyota part that fits between the upper and lower fender. It’s kind of a plastic piece

11-84 to 01-90, but should fit any narrow nose J7, I guess.

Yes you are right about the plastic joint.
That's when you assemble the fender (upper + lower) on the apron that I wonder which approch to take.
Might use asphalt roof cement too.
