Does anyone know approx how much a hardtop weighs?? 100, 150, 200. I did a search and didn't find anything of the weight of the hardtop itself.

Id guess it between 225 - 275.

I'd give it 1 blown out nut out of 2 for a one man lift.

As I recall, factory specs says 225 lbs is the diff between a hardtop and ragtop FJ40.

I've taken it off and put it on more than a half dozen times by myself and I'm not a superhero by any means. I figure rust has reduced the weight of mine quite a bit though. :)

Closer to 200 lbs would be my guess.

i wouldnt even try by myself, you kidding me

props

3 dudes and it a breeze, i would guess 195 its heavy and akward

Ive done it myself several times as well. I put a table up to the back of the cruiser, squat lift the top at a point where its balance and walk it onto the table where i turn it 90 deg. and set it down. Its heavy, but im no super hero either. But i just installed an electric hoist in my garage so that will be the meathod from here on out.

I've done it solo a few too many times.

The method I found worked best was having it on a utility trailer behind the truck and walking forward with it. It's not fun but it is doable.:D

Concur with the ~ 200 lb estimate. I've removed my top twice using the same technique. Only recommended when you can't find a helper, but it's certainly possible to pull it off alone without killin' yourself. Not nearly as easy getting it back on without assistance.

Thats the same method I have used. The only real hang up is the length of the stabilizer bars that go into the body just behind the door. After the first couple of times, I decided to shorten the bars by about three inches.

I have also taken it apart (Cap, rear support, door supports, flip up hatch and finally the sides)

For the amount of trouble that's involved, I prefer to to just keep it together and "nut up" so to speak. It's harder to do but soooo much faster (15 minutes max now).

** If you use this method, make sure that the table is strong enough to hold 400 lbs and that it's stable. Ask me how I know this. ;)
