Thanks to Nick Colbern at Colbern’s Detailing in Ventura, CA for the skills. Nick is an authorized and trained XPEL installer. His shop is very organized and clean and when I rolled in there was an F430 in for paint correction and Tesla Plaid for PPF, and a Maserati in for paint correction and PPF. Check out his YouTube and social media accounts for examples of his work. He was great to work with and a very good communicator. Nick helped me figure out a few details on the build based on his experience and I am very stoked on the result.

After lots of picture searching I decided I wanted to go with a Magnetic Gray Metallic LC200 2016+. Goals were:
1. Some sort of paint protection against brush pinstriping when I got so work in the backcountry (www.lpfa.org)
2. Blackout Chrome
3. Run biggest tires I could fit without rubbing or suspension mods.

Nobody currently makes any offroad magnetic armor (like GOAT Armor), so I did some research and learned that XPEL makes a product that can withstand brushing and has self healing capabilities. I decided between the XPEL Ultimate 10 and the Stealth. The stealth is 8 mil and ultimately won me over after seeing a sample on the MGM paint.

Watched and read the info @Eric Sarjeant has produced on doing blackout and he provided some additional tips and tricks to get this done with ease.

Coming from the 4Runner platform (2 3rd gens and a 5th Gen) I was familiar with many of the Toyota offroad manufacturers and pretty quickly found a wheel that I liked: Icon Thrust. ent with Copper Discoverer AT3 4S because I’ve had good experience on the 4Runner.

I bought a 2018 that was in pretty good shape but has a number of paint defects. Nick at Colberns deconstructed the vehicle and then did a decontamination l, clay, and polish to prep the paint. The XPEL Stealth is a great option for a used rig because it actually hides minor blemishes. Once prepped, the vehicle was wrapped head to toe. After painting the chrome, front grill and fog light bezels got clear ppf to protects against rock chips. Front headlights got light smoke ppf, and rears got a dark smoke. Window trim got vinyl, which I understand may not hold up, but an easy redo as needed. Did a satin black vinyl on the door handles to accent the door panels. And did a ceramic tint on front windows to match the rest of the car.

Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S 285/70/17

So here it is: the new family wagon that will see dirt a couple times a year! 🤙🏻

o_O That's nasty!

That looks amazing. Like a graphite matte.

so was that matte clear XPEL on top of metallic gray?

Does the matte on the hoot cut down on the glare of the sun? I've played with doing matte XPEL just on the hood for that reason

Mind if I ask how much just the wrap was? PM me if you prefer. I'm local and have been thinking of doing this

Yes XPEL Stealth over magnetic gray metallic. It’s a satin finish clear XPEL and definitely cuts down on glare. I’ll PM you.

Picked up a Frontrunner slimline II 1/2 rack. Perfect size for my uses. I knew about the company but didn’t realize their US HQ was only about an hour away from home. Picked it up in person and got to check out their other gear. Great guys and great products. Added a couple lights, some brackets for my roadshower, and of course a bottle opener.
The packaging was like nothing I’ve EVER seen in the automotive world. Protected, and individual QA slips signed by hand and the instructions are accurate and detailed. Honestly the best I’ve ever seen and I will buy more of their products as a result of my experience.
Here are a couple pics!
