Curious if there’s anywhere to get reverse signal on a manual other than the reverse light. My camera came with a little red wire that I connected to the 12V that powers the bulb, but it burned the wire - not sure if the ampacity of the little red wire was insufficient or what happened but I’m wondering if there’s somewhere else I can tap my head unit into so that the reverse signal gets activated? Maybe some switch around the shifter?

No switches around the shifter in a manual. Hit pin #19 (red & black wire) of that IL1 plug with a multimeter, check for +12v when you throw it in reverse, IGN on. IL1 is designated ID2 in the second diagram.

What head unit is it?

I have a Chinese Android unit that has a typical pink wire for a backup camera. Frankly,
I don’t know why I fried the last wire - if it’s where I tapped into, or if the wire was too thin to handle the backup signal. (I simply found the wire going to the light bulb that was going hot when reverse was engaged and tapped that). The Android unit wire was probably like 24ga or something though - maybe that’s why.

Thanks for that diagram!

Maybe it was completing the circuit through the head unit, I'm not sure. Have you tried just applying 12v from a cig socket to the camera trigger wire?

The odd thing is, it _was_ working for a while (like a few days). The car was out of my possession shortly after for another few days, and it looks like the wire melted during that time, so I’m not sure what happened to it in the meantime. I’m trying to check the boxes on my side to see if it was something I wired wrong before I blame the user.
