I believe there are some available at a local used parts place, well 20 miles. I will be in the area sometime next week, which comp. do you need them for, also one bracket is part of the power steering mounting do you have any pieces at this time?

I need both brackets that attach to the AC compressor and the one bolted to the intake manifold. I do have the bracket that is on the PS though. Please PM me the cost even though I'm not in a big hurry to get the AC going right now, but I would like it working someday. Thanks a bunch for the help.

Ok, took my dash back apart again today, didn't want to but have to track down the starter wire. I found the black/white wire coming out of the ignition switch and it has power when the switch is turned to the start position. Now I just have to crawl under there and trace it until I find out where it is loosing power. Still wondering how the shift lock works, is it electrical and if so what do I need to look for to get it working again.

Found the problem, fortunately didn't have to dig around much. When I got the car several months ago I hooked the battery up and the alarm went crazy, it was an aftermarket alarm and I didn't have the remote to turn it off so I unhooked the battery and crawled under the dash to find the alarm and cut the wires. After looking tonight I found the alarm system used a harness that plugged into the ignition switch wiring. The yellow wire I clipped from the alarm was actually the continuation of the black/white wire from the ignition to the starter. I removed the alarm harness and plugged the 2 ends of the factory harness back together and voila, power to the black/white wire coming out of the firewall. I can now run this wire to the starter and be in business! I am still trying to figure out the shiftlock but maybe once I tear into it it will be as easy.

Dieselcruiser, is your GM 6.5 installed in a FJ60? If so, is there a turbo? Did you have to cut out the wheel wells to fit the engine with the turbo (I heard this was the case)? I am preparing to try and install a 6.5 in my 87 FJ60.

Juan,

The 6.5 is installed in a 1993 fj80 and it does have a turbo (you can see it on the left hand side of the photo as few posts back). I did not have to cut out the wheel wells for the installation. The 6.5 fit with little trouble.

I really can't comment on how it fits in a 60 and what modifications are necessary but on page 4 of this same thread there are pictures of a 6.2 in a 60 and the 6.2 is identical in size to the 6.5.

Good luck with your swap!

Thanks. I believe that both of those 6.2 engines don't have a turbo attached. A previous post mentioned that a 6.5 TD required modifications to the fender to accommodate the turbo. I am going to buy a brand new crate 6.5 TD motor and I have the option of either side mounting or rear mounting the turbo. Rear mounting seems interesting, but I am not sure if there will be fire-wall clearance issues. I plan on using an HF55 transmission with an Advance adopters mounts and trans adopter.

Wiring for Rtarh2o

I hope this will help if it pulls up ok.

Thanks, the wiring will be a great help, I am taking it out to my shop now to see what I can figure out.

Thanks again Jimmy for the AC bracket info, but I was wondering what you think about flex fans far a 6.2. Right now I have a cheesy electric fan that I put together after my electric "flex-a-lite" fan fell apart on me. If I had my old 2F fan I would definitley use it, but thats long gone. Flex-a-lite gave me credit for my old fan at the speed shop I bought it from, and now I'm wondering what to get. I want something reliable and that will cool down the 6.2 loaded down in 100 degree heat. I do remember Flcruiser discussing about Hayden thermal clutches, but now I'm thinking a flex fan is more reliable, do to the lack of a clutch, and lighter. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

cooling fans

To be honest I don't care for the flex fans they cool ok but make a lot of noise. I do like the thermal clutch fans, I have had good service with the stock diesel fans in previous vehicles as long as you have room for it and a good fan shroud. The hayden is very good one. If you go on there web site there much inf. available.

Now going on 13 years since the last response to this discussion I am wondering if a 6.2/6.5 swap is still a decent choice for an 80-series (in particular a '91-'92 as that is what I have). Anyone want to comment on how their conversions are holding up after so many years and/or availability of 6.2/6.5s and/or parts?
