Sounds alot like what I am doing. I opted for the hydroboost brakes. It was actually pretty easy (assuming it will work) Where are you? I am in Texas, I would love to see it. Post some pics, I am sure I will have some questions for you in the next day or two when and if I get the engine in.
Rusty
I took some picutres and tried to attached them but I get an error saying the size exceeds the 800x800 limit. If I can figure out how to resize I will get them posted. I live in Des Moines, IA. If you are up to the trip you are more than welcome to take it for a spin.
I saw your question to dieselcruiser and I thought I would show my fan setup which is Fj60 clutch and fan machined to fit the diesel water pump, works great in the hottest weather well up to 100 F. I have put 18,000 miles on it since Aug. 2006.
How did you machine the fan clutch to make it fit? Also I am starting to think about the throttle cable, what did you do about yours? I can see it but wondering how you did it, on the 80 the cable is way too long, going to have to shorten it. I didn't think from looking at it it would have room under the hood to attach on top but after looking at yours it might do it.
More pics would be great, I am learning alot from them.
Thanks - Rusty
You will have to bear with me, I did all the install including exhaust with J-bends, mounts from scrape metal by myself. I sit the clutch up true to the inside bore and machined it to the diesel shaft w/p size on a 30 year old craftman lathe and oblonged the bolt holes to suit the w/p bolt circle, worked fine. As for the throttle cable it's the original off the 88 suburban which the engine was from and I put a hole in the firewall in line with the throttle cable hookup inside above the accelerator. I also used the original glow plug timer wired it to the choke light inside for glow plug operation indicator. I put a picture of the oil cooler which is mounted behind the grill hope you can see it ok.
That looks great, thanks for all the pictures, they sure help me get some ideas. I will play with the fan clutch and see what it is going to take to get it on there. Looks like you have A/C, did you have the hoses made? I am using a variable glow plug timer I bought that I hope will work. I am going to go back to the salvage yard this week and find a throttle cable that might work, I will probably have a better idea what you are talking about once I see it. I am also going to have find a way to hook up my cruise control.

I made adaptors that would fit gm hoses to FJ60 hoses, also installed fill connections on them, little more lathe work. The a/c works fine even when temp. in the 90s, well it is not good as my Yukon. Fj60 radiator cools fine with a/c going too.
JimCrow, Not familiar with the Ranger OD. Does it come with a bell housing or does it just bolt up to a standard GM bell housing?
Rusty, You can go to Haydens website Hayden Automotive and download a PDF catalog. It gives dimensions, specs , measurements, bolt patterns, pilot hole dia, etc of just about every fan clutch ever made.
I found all the fan clutches made for a 6.2 had too large of a bolt pattern for the automotive fans I wanted to use. I ended up using a car fan clutch and drilling out the pilot hole so it fit the 6.2's large water pump shaft. I didn't know about Haydens website when I did mine. Ran around Pic-N-Pull with dial calipers measuring fan clutches.
JimCrow, did you make the hoses yourself or have them made? I was thinking about trying to make some but I thought with the high pressure you couldn't do it yourself?
FL cruiser, I will check out the website, sounds like an easy way to do it, as much as I love salvage yards it is hard when you really don't know what you are looking for!
Can't wait to get this thing on the road, with all your help it won't be long. Pictures to come soon.
Rusty
I just reread that you made adapters for the A/C, may have to have that done. I was told NAPA could custom make hoses, I may take them the 2 ends and see what they can do.

The ranger slides over the FJ60 input shaft and bolts up to trans. bolt holes and the input is GM shaft spline with bellhousing bolt pattern which bolts to the GM bellhousing of your choice. I am using an 85 gmc diesel housing with 12in. clutch, hyd. slave cly. for same, works great with FJ60 master cly. Also the early corvettes had a clutch fan with the large hole and correct bolt pattern. Note the ranger does have a noticeable gear rattle but works good, "I also made a shifter mounted it on top of the trans. with top cover bolts which moved it back about 6" with heim joints and link this got it from under the heater housing as the ranger shifter would have been". As of this date I have averaged above 21 miles to the gallon the lowest ever checked was 19. I think "rtarh2o" asked about this earlier, doesn't much difference how I drive it. It is used for mobile repair work go anywhere with all type mechanic tools in the back.
Ok, couple more things I am running into today. The engine is in, I am trying to wire the starter motor. I have the black/red wire coming out of the passenger side firewall that went to the original starter via the transmission. (I assume this is to cut the power unless it is in park) I am bypassing the wiring to the transmission but I am not getting any power coming out of the wire from the firewall, am I missing something? I think it might be my shift lock, it is not working but is it associated with the starter wiring? I am going to start looking into the shift lock problem now, hopefully I will come up with something
Rusty
Check for a blk.&white wire coming from the ign.sw. that goes to the neutral safety sw. see if power is there in start position. If not correct I can check into it more Monday for you, let me know.
I believe there are some available at a local used parts place, well 20 miles. I will be in the area sometime next week, which comp. do you need them for, also one bracket is part of the power steering mounting do you have any pieces at this time?
Neutral safety sw. is on the trans. Blk/White ign. to neutral sw. red/blk. from neutral sw.to starter. You may need to check for good grounds. Does the heater blower work with the switch on just to assure power to your ign. sw.
Jim
heater blows, I don't have the dome light circuit fuse in right now, could it be wired through there? How does the shift lock dissengage? Would the engine start without the shift lock dissengeged?
Here is one photo of the 6.5. I would have attached more but for some reason this picture took all the storage space available for my attachments.
As you can see I have some work yet to do (fan shroud, organize wiring, clean-up, etc) but it drives fine. After installing the engine it was apparent that the hood would not close with the stock '93 coolant crossover / thermostat housing. You may not have that problem with the 6.2 crossover. I installed the '97 and up dual thermostat crossover which routes the upper radiator hose much lower (it runs behind the alternator) and provides more cooling, not necessary for a NA 6.2 but beneficial if you decide to install a turbo. This kit comes with the 130 gph water pump as well.
I also installed a 3.5 inch mandrel bent exhaust, new timing gears from DSG and a new peninsular marine injection pump (calibrated to 270hp) with a set of their injectors.
Sounds like you are running into some wiring questions. I ordered a complete wiring diagram for my '93 fj80 thru Automotive Hobbisits for around $5 and it came in really handy. You may want to order one.
