Hi folks, dont laugh please, as the title says, does anyone here use engine dressing if not on your cruisers (trucks too tough for that right?) but on your other vehicles? If so what do you use? I have a friend who finishes up every engine wash with a spray of WD-40. His engine always looks lovely but then again I wonder what the long term effects of this are on hoses and belts and such. Also I wonder what the chances of combustion are when WD-40 is covering everything? Thanks again!

Personally, I think nothing looks better than a clean "dry" engine. I am in the car business and we have several "mop-and-glow" products for this, all of which I hate. All they do is attract road dust. It also makes working under the hood a slippery mess. As for combustion, I don't know what the flash point of WD-40 is but hot engine bays aren't places for any greasy petroleum product, IMO.

Turbocruiser, i always use the http://www.trimshine.com/
1st- Spray with engine brite degreaser then let it soak for few mins - hose 'em with fresh water.
2nd- let all components complete dry up then spray with trimshine, wipe it with dry towel for overspray and the results very shine & amazed :D

P.S: Especially if you want to pop the hoods and show it to your car dealers salesman the next thing he gonna l@@k at it & holly s*&@^

I read somewhere that Junk dresses his engine in a nice floral sundress before he wheels it -- can't find the link to that thread though :D

I leave mine alone after cleaning...on those rare occasions when I can't stand the mess anymore or if I'm going to be working on it. I'd think that WD-40 would attract dust making it stick.

Check with -B- I think he uses saran wrap. :D

Oh nevermind  u mean on the inside. :D

Ohhhh, good thing you are a mod. You are in trouble buddy!

I dress mine with a layer of dust, takes at least the better part of a day and most of a tank of fuel to apply correctly. I sometimes wash it off and try to reapply as soon as possible! :flipoff2:

I've used "Tire Foam" on the plastic and rubber under the hood (but careful not to spray the belts). Works fast and easy. Just spray on, that's it. Doesn't seem to collect dust.

This is one of the endorsed methods that is used by MBZ owners.

I've used CD-2 engine detailer on my sedans (one time treatment) - makes the engine compartments look much slicker; just need to dust the engines about twice a year to keep them new again.

This thread is endlessly amusing to me, not sure why. I keep imagining my engine covered in hollandaise or tartar sauce. Yummy! :D
