Salt does more than just attract moisture. Live in a beach house for a year and I guarantee your brand new car will be a rust bucket at the end of that year.

Yeah, I don't really think salt "attracting moisture" is really a significant part of the problem.

Salt water is a much better ectrolyte than plain ol' rain water. It conducts those ions better and makes the oxidation happen faster.

I religiously wash my truck regularly in the winter around here.
I don't know if it actually makes a difference, but after washing off the salt and grime, I use the "spot free rinse." On the underside.
I assume the spot-free rinse is just softened water, and I'm fantasizing that it might be better at dissolving the salt, and will leave a less-electrolytic coating of water when I drive away from the car wash still wet.
Odds are good that I'm totally off on this :D .

Anyone ever try something like 90W mixed with WD-40( 3:1 ratio or so)? I would think that the WD would act as a vehicle to get the oil worked into tight areas. Thoughts?

warm the gear oil up in the jug while you have a big pot on the stove with water in it.cheaper:D ive never tryed wd40 so i would not have a clue.might be bad on the rubber and seal parts being its used to remove rusty bolts or things of that nature.im sorry ive put industrail paints, primers, with epoxys.and all kinds of s*** nonething has ever worked for me over the years but this process.what happends when you put oil in a iron skillet:confused: .it almost crystalizes under heat.same concept here but over time it sets up

I saw a guy in MN that had his cruiser frame and part of the body up to the first indent on the door...all the way across sprayed with Line X....said he loved it and had no problems with rust....according to him had it done about a year and a half ago. Sorry no specifics.

what about powdercoating the frame? anyone know how hard this would be to do? or if this would work?
