I'm looking for someone familiar with Land Cruisers to take a look at my 1992. I drove it from Los Angeles to Great Cacapon and midway started having some acceleration and shifting issues. I'm a girl and new to the area...I dont want to take my land cruiser to some generic shop thats going to take me for a ride and tell me I need a new tranny etc.

Recommendations?

yea there is a couple folks from that area.

Shifting and acceleration issues.

Lets start basic pardon if you already checked.........have you checked the tranny fluid level and did you check it in nuetral after it warmed up? If you didnt you will get an improper reading.

Has any work been done to it recently?

Just how does it shift and about when (speed wise) does it shift into drive after acceleration?

whats the gas pedal doing, sticking perhaps? lol no thats not a Toyota joke?

Is the temp light on for the tranny?

These Trannys are really well built the big killer for them are heat however I see frequent that the kickdown cables over time wear and make you think there is an issue with the transmission.

i live in Charles Town, and i know a good mechanic, that is honest. his shop is right across from the main entrance to the casino.

that is if you can get it there.

Tranny fluid looks great, doesnt smell burned. No major work done on it lately.

I think its the motor mounts...they are broken and I think the engine shifted while I was pushing up over the incline from CA to AZ...thats when the probs started and the symptoms are spot on...from the clunk when it switches gears to the acceleration probs and the tranny jumping.

I ordered some motor mounts yesterday...I dont know if they will be here before I leave on Thurs...so if anyone knows someone close to Berkeley Springs that can help out with the install...please let me know. I'm afraid to drive it...but I have to.

I broke my drivers side motor mount last year, the only symptom I remember is hearing the fan blades hit the fan shroud under acceleration or while I was on an incline. I dont remember having trouble shifting.

I have had trouble with my throttle positon cable, I've heard it called a kick down cable. The truck wouldn't shift when it was supposed to. Gave me problems up hills on the highway. It might be something easy to look at before spending a bunch of money.

Is the truck vibrating or running rough? Any other symptoms? What speeds are you having trouble shifting??

I broke mine on the passenger side in PA and I had shifting trouble but I also messed up the tranny mount in the process hense the tail shaft was in a bind

I hear (and feel) a loud thunk when it does shift into gear. Its vibrating more than normal and theres a high pitched sqeualing in first and third when I'm going uphill. On flat ground it still purrs, but when I push her acceleration is very slow or nonexistent and it doesnt shift when it should. My steering is a little loose...beyond the 1/8 inch tolerance.

All my fluids look great...tranny fluid is redish pink, clear, doesnt smell. Oil was changed right before I left CA and still looks good, not thick, pretty clear. No oil in the coolant, no coolant in the oil. Temps remained normal through the entire 2700 miles trip...didnt even hit the high end of normal.

Can has 236k miles on it...but the first owner maintained the car flawlessly and had every major and most minor components replaced as recommended. The only original parts are the engine and tranny. Compression test when I bought it was good.

Thoughts?

I'm having both the motor mounts and tranny mount changed. I'm fairly certain thats the prob...but I'm going to tinker with the throttle cable just in case. Either way...the motor mounts are broken and need to be replaced. Especially for the roads where we live in Great Cacapon.
