Anyone had any experience with this on the LC100 with an OME 864 Install? (1 Viewer)

New OME 864’s produce a serious clunk on offset approach angle.

I recently replaced my OME 863’s for the heavier 864’s as I’m carrying an AO drawer system, Engle fridge, RTT, AO Rack, 42 gal subtank, Slee sliders, ARB front bumper and Kaymar rear, and a bunch of toys – heavy load. The new springs really lifted to truck in the rear so we cranked up the TB’s in front and had the front end aligned (also have HD TB's and OME socks). Truck now rides stiffer (cool), but feels like it floats a bit in the rear (hard to describe). More importantly, it makes a serious clunk when hitting driveways or obstacles at an oblique angle - anyone have any idea why? Similar experience. No drop kit for 100 series panhards found as yet although Slee has an adjustable unit. Christo also mentioned that the stiffer springs may change the panhard angle (the one that runs across and parallel to the rear axel) and and may also change the rear axel position (aackk!). Anyone had any experience with this on the LC100 with an OME 864 Install? Thoughts? Speculations? Are phantom clunks normal with this set up? Have I lost my cotton pickin’ mind?:censor:

I run a not dissimilar load with ARB T/B's and 864's (truck came with 868's!) in my HDJ100. No clunks. Quiet as a mouse. :D I still run the stock panhard rod and the axle sits acceptably.

I'd check the coils to make sure they're located correctly on the bottom mount and see if I could tighten the shocks as they're the most likely clunk culprits if the top mount is not tight enough. Also maybe the sway bar bush's?.

No clunk here either. Truck runs all quiet and smooth over all kinda terrain! !

Yes, I have experienced this clunk with 864's. It only happened in the same situations you mentioned. I ended up going to 863's to level out the truck and the noise/clunk disappeared.

You sure the noise is not from the front? When you hit those bumps your shock might be topping out due to too little down-travel. ??? Or is the noise when the rear wheels hit the bump?

Great feed back and much appreciated. Noise is definitely in the rear. The real irony is I just sold my 863's to beef things up in anticipation of the new RTT. I will check the shock mounts, bushings and the set of the springs to ensure they are where they are supposed to be. Will report out findings when done scratching my balding head. Many thanks, guys...

I would agree with Shotts about focusing on the front. When was the last time the control arm bushings were changed? Worn bushings make a thunk noise when crossing speed bumps or other obstacles when the front end "drops" hard. They back bushings will do the same if they are worn also. I would change the front first though to prevent over extending of the front axles. This can wear the inner joint of those axles and cause a another thumping sound when cornering.

Sorry, I didn't read the last post about the back.

OK, gotcha.

Any chance your springs are in backwards (L-R)?

864? Wow, a great candidate for an N74L shock. 3" more wheel travel with 33-35" tires. New lower bushings go in when you go to those shocks.
