I'm not sure if they're there to prevent water from entering into the channels around the windshield or not but mine keep popping up where they transition onto the roof in front of the roof rack.

Is this a known problem and is there an easy fix?

yes it is common, and yes there is an easy fix.
the plastic clips that hold them down wear out. the easy fix is jam a squirt of rtv in the clip at the top of the trim and tape/weight it down until the rtv cures.

Yep, this is what I did and it has worked like a champ for over a year and a half

I just had my dealership replace the window side molding and the clips along the roof channel. I forgot how much it cost but I don't remember it being too ridiculous.

I too have had my driver's side replaced by the dealer, but it still makes noise when in high winds. I'm going to have to try that RTV trick.

I've been having this problem too!!! In addition to the molding on top, the molding/trim on the driver side, passenger door. Does anyone have a particular brand of RTV that works well?

permatex ultra black is what I used, primarily because I had some already. works great, available at any auto parts store.

If you want to make sure that it never, ever, EVER comes off, use 3M weatherstrip adhesive.
That suff is stout!

Thanks. My first thought was to glue it down but wanted to see what others came up with aside from replacing the piece. I need to order one of the small black covers for the attachment points for the roof rack too.

Mine also moves a bit. Are these removed/replaced when the windshield is replaced?

I bought my 2004 LX470 used from a Honda dealership in May. The windshield had been replaced, before purchase and I had to take it back in to get the black side channels put back on. The channels were screwed in with no silicone or stripping laid down to cover the old rivet holes. Also I now realize the top caps were not installed(I wondered why they weren't flush to the roof)! I read that incorrect install might be why I am having the following problem.

When it rains hard I am getting wet carpet on the passenger side. I take out the glove box and see where there is some surface rust on the silver tube frame and bracket that support the dash. Ran it through a car wash and see that there is a drip coming from above that rail. My biggest concern is all the electronics in that area eventually corroding.

1)It has been a torrential June here in Alabama, so I am not sure if this problem persisted before I bought the vehicle or not.
2)Even though I bought the vehicle as is, I have in writing that the dealership was responsible for the weatherstripping install after the sale.

I would appreciate any thoughts on whether it is most likely a windshield/weatherstripping problem, or might the leak be from somewhere else?
Any help would be greatly appreciated so I have an idea how to proceed.
Many thanks!
David

That's an understatement, a roommate in college let me use some to hang a picture, I used like 4 feet worth. End of the year I pulled off a picture sized chunk of drywall.

I got the 3m weather strip adhesive rather than the RTV. Thanks @Taco2Cruiser for the link and recommendation. But before applying this stuff, i just want to make sure it will come off in the event I need to replace the windshield or the moulding by the passenger window. I don't want to screw myself later on with this stuff not being able to let go. Thoughts?

No experience with it on the intended surfaces (plastic and metal) where it needed to be removed. I've used it to stick all sorts of stuff together, but I've never had to take it apart (save the drywall incident). Sorry.

Yea, no problems brother, the weathed strip adhesive is strong, but it's what holds your windshield and reveal moldings in from the factory. Every windshield repair shop is completely used to removing and scraping away this stuff.

Just don't go crazy, not that it will hurt, it's just uncessesary clean up later. Apply between the clip (there's 4 of them) and the gutter channel about a nickle sized amount. Stick on, put some weight on them, and give at least an hour to firm up. Masking tape helps a little also.

When I had my windshield recently replaced, I had the shop order new strips and I recall them being like $50 a piece, if that. Not only did the new trim look better, but with the new clips it actually looks factory new again.
