My 99 TLC key is less and less able to open the doors, even when I'm standing right at the truck. The light in the fat part of the key is very dim on first push, and generally dies after two or three.
Is this something only the dealer can do, or can I get a battery from the local drugstore? Is there a DIY for this "mod" somewhere out there? I know the 80 series guys have written tons on how to program their remote control fob, but this is a 100 series key -- and the car won't start if that little immobilizer fails to signal the central processor.

thanks

The transponder in the key works with no battery power. Its using RF technology that does not require battery power in the transponder. The receiver near the steering coulumn run on battery power but that got no relation with the key battery.

I imagine the battery are just common watch battery that even walmart should carry.

I replaced the battery in my key. Not a problem...just need a tiny screwdriver and Radio Schack.
