Spent a lot of time rebuilding the original carb on my '85 Cruiser. Before the rebuild my cruiser would not idle at all. Now my Cruiser idles inconsistently. Sometimes it will idle fine for 5-10 minutes. Sometimes it will sputter and die. Other times when driving, I can push the clutch in and the engine will go to 2500RPM. Tested the idle solenoid already. What else could it be?

This may seem really off of the wall... but have you checked your throttle return spring? Mine is basically shot, and sometimes my idle will go sky high as well....

You might try putting a vacuum gauge on it to rule out a vac leak.

Bad ground on the fuel cut solenoid, or possibly dirt or foreign objects obstructing the idle circuit. Take off the 4 vac lines on the base of the carb and blow out the brass tubes with compressed air. See if anything was blocking the small passageways. Also remove the the idle mixture screw and clean that passageway out. Make sure you note apporoximately how many turns 'out' the screw was.
