I'm taking my daughter a '97 4Runner for college and need to teach her and her sister some basic off-road driving skills. Is there anywhere around there to do that, or do I need to go up to the San Gabriel river, or what?
Any semi-mild offroading near Long Beach?

San Gabriel is about the only place to legally offroad, you can always go to El Sereno Elphant Hills but not very legal and the LAPD might be waiting, but its a fun place to go to.
There is a patch of dirt at California & 29th, the base of signal hill to the west.... but it is literally a tiny patchwork of semi imporved dirt roads for oil drilling access. Sometimes when my truck is just too shiny I'll spend 10 minutes there.
