I am buying my wife a 2000 Avalon, and wanted to purchase an extended warranty, independent from the dealer's extended warranty. Does anyone have any good experiences with a particular company? Thanks in advance.

1st you should get better respond in in chit chat section.
2nd I would not but extended warranties for Honda or Toyota except for a certain year Camry and Sienna that are really prone with oil slude problem.
3rd that is just me since I did almost 90-100% of the work on my vehicle anyway.
4th Extended warranty are Rip Off Scam since they would not accept claim without a lot of hassle anyway.
5th I am not familiar with Avalon. I dont know what is their common problem.

An extended warranty is exactly like a life insurance policy or a visit to the Blackjack table in 'Vegas. You are betting that the car breaks and the issuer is betting it won't. Do you feel lucky?

from what I read/heard, these extended warranties unless offered by the manufacturer is close to worthless at worst and way too expensive at best...

I added an extended warranty on a Ford PU and on a Honda Civic. I ended up winning because both required $2000+ of service that was covered 100% by the ext warranty and neither warranty cost that much.

Just after the extended ran out on the Ford, I had to pop for a new engine on my own dime. I lost that round.
