I just brought home a new 2005 525 EXC that I am going to Dual Sport. I was wondering if anyone here rides an orange bike?

I have several friends that have moved on from KDX200s to 250EXCs and love them. I like the power band and suspension adjustability, but I'm not sold on the package yet for the the kind of technical woods riding I usually do. It's almost guaranteed that one of them will overheat during a long uphill climb at low rpm. It's not usually a big deal as it gives us a good lunch break, but if it was my bike, I'd be pissed.

Well - here's how to stop that:

Rejet - the James Dean FCR kit is the easiest to tune. The factory jetting is super lean and makes the engine run hot.

Install the KTM cooling fan kit.

Modify the stator ground to keep the battery fully charged.

With those easy mods they should NOT overheat. The bikes are intended to cool through forward motion - if there is no airflow through the rads the engine will heat up rapidly. Here is THE resource for KTM tech help:

You could also try adding some of that purple ice i think that's what it's called to your coolant. Supposed to help it cool more.

had a 525 while when my finger got chopped off in a supercross...hated that bike with a passion................sold it 2 months later and got another CRF450.

Also had a 250 EXC...great bike, very durable and ripped enduro races.

Dumped in in a river in a national enduro in julesburg colorado on the first lap, thing went floating down the river....never was the same, I shagged it out of the river bed, tipped in upside down, pumped out the water from the jug, fired it back up and finished another 60 miles on it........bikes bottom end/top end were gone.

I'm curious - what about the 525 did you hate so badly? Was it an SX or an EXC?

It was an EXC...heavy + problems....2nd or 3rd ride the brake pads seized to the rotor...4th or 5th ride the stator fell off and locked up the bike on a 70 MPH fire road..Other than not trusting the bike with my life.?
I gues it is good what it was meant for......I didn't have enough patients with the beast, I was just off the arena cross circuit with a cut off finger, I was still in the tripple double mode on the 525.

If you want a commuter / trail bike ...go for it !!, I would sitll opt for the Honda CRFX 450.....cheaper / lighter / faster and bike of the year

Here it is...sold it on ebay for 7K

The 525's here in OZ are a great bike , the thing is its a 4 Stroke , thats a retirement bike !! :) :)
I am a big fan of the "orange" , great bikes but keep them maintained !! there not like a Jap bike ride it and park it till next time , the Euro stuff you do have to maintain a lot better , but anyway you should be doing that regardles of what bike it is !!

My current ride is a , KTM 380 and its a top bike bike , but i am sick of replacing kickstarters !!!!!

Apart From That Welcome to team Orange , and stay upright !!
