About to install an OME suspension kit from 4wheelauto in my HZJ73. Kit came with two anti inversion shackles and two normal shackles. Not sure if the anti inversions belong in the front or the rear. Anybody know?

Thanks

Peter

Not sure what you mean by anti-inversion. The triple pinned shackles on the OME, for the front springs on a BJ74 are on the front shackle supports and for the back springs on the rear supports. I believe they swing in to allow more axle articulation.

4wheelauto refers to two of the four shackles as "anti inversion". They would be the three pinned ones I believe, the other two are two pinned. So you're saying the three pinned belong in the front? Or should both sets be three pinned? I was told when I bought the kit that there would be two anti inversion - I just don't remember if they said they go in the front or the rear and 4wheel is closed till Monday...

Thanks for the help

On the front springs, the ant iversion shackles are on the front. The pin goes towards the spring. so the spring cannot travel up. The rear of your spring mounts to the frame.

On the rear springs the anti inversion shackle is on the back, with the pin towards the front to limit the movement up.

If you need pictures let me know. I have OME anti inversion on my 60.

So here is the deal, the kit showed up with a set of two pin shackles and a set of three pin "anti inversion" shackles. Do the three pin "anti inversions" install along with the front spring pack or the rear spring pack. I hope that clarifies the problem some what.

Thanks guys!!

Thanks Brownbear - so you suggest the front for the anti inversions. I thought Kevin at 4wheel said they go in the back, but I am not certain - hence the post. Anybody running anti inversions in only the front or the rear?

I thought this seemed a bit odd, so I went out and checked my trucks. My 70 has a full OME kit that was installed +/- 7 years ago. It has anti inversion 3 pin shckles front and rear. My new 74 doesn't have a full emu set up, but they installed new emu shackles, bushings, shocks, and steering stabilizer on it. The fronts are greasable 3 pin AI shackles, but the rears are standard, 2 pin non-greasable. I have no idea if this is how the new Emu kits come, but I'm interested to find out...

Mine are the same as Brown Bear

My OME suspension was purchased in June 2006 for my BJ74 and has anti-inversion shackles front and rear (4 in total). They are set up the same as Brown Bear.

hi there,
to the best of my knowledge the shakles you speak of have three bolts, if your leaf spring inverts while dropping into a hole when the suspension compresses again it may go inside the distance between the two chassis mount points. if you install the shackle so the third bolt is closest to the axle this is avoided, further you can get them for both axles, front and rear.

does anybody have tech specs on both a 1hz and 1hdt camshafts? i am wondering if it is possible to grind a 1hz one to 1hdt specs. i know the 1hdt has 1mm less lift on the inlet lobe and it is much cheaper to do that than buy a 1hdt cam $480.00 from engine australia. i am building a turbo hz engine that should go real well and live, shame it was not a cheap task.
thanks

Hi Petermac, like I said I have those on all 4 corners.

But reading the post I linked to above Lowenbrau says he sees springs go inverted on the front springs when going across rivers, I guess the shackle could be pushed back when you smack into a ledge.

So I suggest based on Lowenbrau's statement to stick them in the front. The thrid pin always goes toward the centre of the spring. With it near the to[.

These shackles are very popular on 60 series. If you want to read in that forum you will get tonnes of info.

Thank you gentlemen for your help. I'll put the anti inversion shackles in the front and see how that works. Maybe order a second set.

Peter
