I have a 2000 LC with 160K miles. This past Saturday drove a couple of miles, parked it. Then after about an hour I tried to start it, nothing. Tried about 2-3 more times, it started. All I was getting when trying to start it was a click click click. Radio worked, locks worked. Went home parked it, tried to start it a couple of days later. Click click. Electronics all worked. Eventually it wouldn't click anymore.
Some background prior to this past week. In June I took a 2200 mile road trip. No issues at all during the trip. A few days after returning from the trip the vehicle won't start, click click. Electronics working. Tested the battery, it was a little low. As a precaution I exchanged it for a new one since warranty was almost up on it. Car worked just fine after that until this week.
Another thing I should add, I did install a new head unit myself in March of this year with carplay, etc.. Don't know if this could possibly be part of the problem?
This week when the issue arose again, tested the battery. Little low at 12.37. I convinced myself it must be the alternator that is causing the no start/battery drain issue. I took it out today and went to two different auto parts stores to get it tested. 4 tests were run, it passed all 4 times. I don't think it is the starter, that was last changed out in 2013 at 130K miles at the dealership. The alternator I have now is the original one I am pretty certain.
Any ideas from the experienced folks out there on what my issue may be? I have a reman denso alternator that is coming tomorrow and am putting that in since the original alternator likely close to the end of its life cycle.
Back in June I cleaned the battery connections and greased them before installing the new battery. No oxidation was showing at the time.
Any help or advice you guys may have would be much appreciated!
