Well yesterday I picked up my first 40 series a 1964 FJ45 a ute of course (I'm in Australia after all) I towed it home with my daily driven 89 FJ62 with a 12ht conversion.

The plan with this project is to build a ute that will actually get driven regularly so I am not going to be to pedantic about keeping it 100% original but it will remain classically styled it will be a pretty mild build as I want it to remain a practical rig oh and the build won't happen fast so be patient as I have very limited time and budget.

Update as of 19/02/16

Okay so the progress has been non existent with work and kids and so forth, however in august last year (2015) I was let go from my job building sheds (woohoo I hated it hours were woeful conditions just as bad) so since then I have been a stay at home dad and helping my lovely wife with her business.

The problem now is there is no budget for the 45 as it is I had to sell the 60. So even though I have some time I have no money (always the way :bang:)

The 45 is still under a tarp in the backyard (still no shed) I'm itching to get stuck in but stumped as to what I can do other than dream and stare at it :(

It was a bit of a barn find and the fact that it has been kept dry is a major plus as it has very little rust it was last registered in 2004.

The ute on the trailer we ended up turning it around as the trailer swayed because the motor and box is sitting in the tray.

In the backyard at home shame I don't have a shed yet to park it in and start the work.

Step 1. Indicators

The search engine above is the best way to locate but everyone calls there projects a bizarre name so they are hard to locate. The best way is to buy a silver star for $20 and post as many photo's and questions as you can and the gurus will find you to answer your questions. We all love old cruiser porn :)

The wheel base on your 45 looks long have you checked the chassis number on the front right hand frame rail just behind the bull bar to see if it corresponds with the compliance plate.

Hi mate nice ute I saw that for sale looked good

Nice score. Looking forward to the build up

Ah nice! $600 is a pretty tidy price. I paid $500 for my '69. west aussie, oz cruiser and aussie 25 are big on the earlies, so they'll know more than me, but I'll help where I can. I've been delving into all sorts of early Cruiser stuff for my build.

Was it a column shift? west is looking for a RHD column shift box/linkages for his '61 40
Do I see an empty engine bay?
Any factory Toyota/period goodies lying around in the old girl?
Do the 4-speed boxes have transfer cases attached?

west she's got a flat roof!

You're a lucky man payney! Nice score! And remember..

'a picture speaks a thousand words..' :grinpimp:

600 bucks with 2 4 speeds the original 3 speed 2 extra doors and a spare bonnet plus a chev bellhousing.

600 bucks !!!! :flipoff2:

Enjoy !

There sure is a whole other world in the early models. I haven't been able to sort through everything that came with but I will soon and will also share pictures.

And yes the engine bay is empty the motor is on the tray.

West aussie found that most early Australian fj45 have had a 4 inch chassis extension done to them. I found a 1963 fj45 with a 104 inch wheel base that was originally from Wee Waa (Lightning Ridge) to date its the only cruiser downunder with the short wheel base. The extension is done where the rear cab mount is welded to the chassis rails. West is going to ask you to have a look around under your truck for this mod and don't chuck the 3 on the tree away as he is chassing parts to rebuild one of his 3 speed shorty projects.
