I bought this 45 in 2013 and as you can see it was a good looking specimen to drive and enjoy. I did a few things to bring it back from the long hibernation in the Arizona desert. In 2015 I moved from Grass valley to a little town west of Oroville Ca, Richvale Ca population 242 not big by any means but about 11 miles from larger cities. Some of the pics that I ha posted are in my blog Hard Cote corner Skips FJ 35 build. You can go over to that section and get the rest of the story. The year down started as a head replacement and has turned into a full nut and bolt resto with a Mercedes 606 Diesel instal. Let’s get started with some pics.View attachment 2361101View attachment 2361101

As time goes on I continued to work on the beast as well as enjoying it however in 2015 when I moved it needed a valve job as I thought and that started the long and involved situation I am in now. Below is a couple of the bed sides the were covered in bondo and after I finished I decided to rebuild the bed with new sides.

I continued the teardown and it got more dismal the rear half was badly rusted so I needed to replace the rear half to make it right. Drilling rivets, not fun and time consuming for sure. I used some 40 rear frame rails that have the same dementions and matched them up to the 45 specifications to keep a stock looking frame. Here are some pics of that process.

The next set of pics are more recent as I move forward to the most tricentennial and my friend of 25 years North West Diesel Off Road helping me to fab it back to getting it back together.

The next phase is the most recent, starting to set the engine in the frame Mercedes 606 with Toyota trans and gear T case both were built by marlin crawler. I had a concern that behind the merk which will Be outing out
300 hp, no problem says Marlin. BTW yes it is long. There were many adjustments involved and trying to figure out how the triple sticks are going to be able wok

Looking good! Keep up the good work!

After some time adjusting moving I think Ron has the best of all the world adjustments so the mounts were

from Dodge Diesel motor mounts plenty strong and they will keep the vibration down to a minimum. Just love the work he does for making it look sano. This brings the project up to the current level, the plan is to continue with the move forward so I can enjoy it soon. There will be some needed work on the floor pan to get rid of the rust beatles and forward to body and paint.

The engine block that is pictured is not the block that I am using for the final engine it is just a dummy. I have one that is all tore down and has been machined and balanced, ready to go back together with .5mm over pistons. Going to do it right because it is receiving a big turbo and a 603 mechanical fuel pump with 7.5 mm elements so it will be in the neighborhood of 300-350hp. The turbo is a HY35W and is used on a 2002 dodge 24 valve truck with auto that is said to be a quick spool unit. The head that is pictured has the valves done with 640 series valve springs, they are a bit stronger and help to get the valves closed with no problems. This 45 is going to be a strong runner and get in the 20ies fuel mileage.

Arrived at Rons yesterday mid morning and jumped right in on started with the bed. Started assembling the mounts for the headboard with the newly made mount from All Metals they have done such a great job reproducing the stock mounts to stock looking. In front of the headboard mount is a new rear tub mount already installed. After the bed assembly the tub will need some attention on the floor,

it is looking pretty rusted out. Already have the new sheet metal, Ron says no problem just slice and dice.

As you can see below we have been making progress with the bed. Will need to have fabricate some different parts for the first crossmember back from the headboard, that will be installed the next trip, along with the rear bumper brackets. Ron and I will do as much as we have parts for then change gears to start working on the tub floor. The trans tunnel is first on the agenda.

Worked Wednesday and Thursday on a few things under the bed floor finish welding and setting things up for next time. The front crossmember behind the headboard is the only thing left then I can add the floor sides and side fenders. I feel a sense of accomplishment from the things I was able to get done while there. I left early Friday morning at 4am ugg, and made my way home arriving at 6:20 pm tired and ready for a beer, it tasted real good so I had another. While I am away Ron will make the mods to the trans cover and the fan shroud for the radiator and maybe the floor repairs, I will return sometime around the 20th of August. While I am home the 35 will get some of my attention.

Starting to prep the trans tunnel and fill holes from the old trans sticks.
The tunnel will have to be lengthened and Ron says sliced and diced to fit. I will keep you updated as we go. The
