Angled VS Flat Rock Sliders? (1 Viewer)

Hey folks,

I'm in the process of building rock sliders for the 94 80 Series....

I'm interested in the FUNCTION of angled versus flat attached sliders.

I've searched Google, and most of what I see is "Man, those look SICK!" That's cool, but.........

My goal is function over form. If I was only interested in form, I'd go drop $1200- $1500 on a pretty set.

I'm more interested in WHY I should choose one route over the other.

I'm also curious how folks have solved the catalytic converters that hang down like a set of balls going commando...

What are your experiences?

I bought the WKOR 10 degree variant and modified them.
They protect the cats with a 1/2" thick skid plate.
I wanted kick outs to protect the rear tire sidewall and the fender flairs, so far so good.

How did you come to choose the 10 degree over flat?

Do a rocker panel chop and you can make them straighter than Chuck Norris riding a T-Rex. Ultimate function > form.

Might be hard to tell, don't have a pic of the cat skid either.

These are white knuckle off road sliders, I asked them to build them 1" wider, so I would have a little more protection. These are DOM.

I also have the reduced angle of 10° because I wanted to be able to use them as a step too oppose to angled up.

So far they have taken a bit of a beating and are holding up strong. The cat skid plate has seen quite a bit of action too.

I got the 10 degrees which is their "flatter" version because I need them to act as steps as well as protection.

Before you panic and say "OMG! you'll tear yourself up on those!"
They've been there going on two years, not once have they ever scratched my shins, but they sure have saved them from miss-stepping and getting just my toe on the grippers. They grab right on to one's boot and don't slip, even when one or both are covered in slimy red clay.

That's really cool... Did you cut those yourself, and do they double as a chain saw if need be?

Yes, cut the grippers out of 1/2" angle iron on my Bridgeport.
And its a teadious job, too.
