Hi all,

When my vehicle is struggling in sand with only two wheels are moving (front, rear) i sometimes notice that in some circumstances all the 4wheels are moving at the same rotation time (not only two wheels).

Some say that it is a limited slip but my rear axle dosen't read an LSD (Limited Slip Diff) marked on it, i also followed this: ''if wheels turn together it is LSD and if the wheels turn the opposite it is Open diff'' So i found out that the wheels on my vehicle turns the opposite side.

I dont know what is this system? (4wheels sometimes are moving together and sometimes its only two wheels) Is it a common thing in an Open diffs?
or is it that i dont understand the ''Limited Slip thing''?

Thanks

equal traction will have 4 tires moving you along, uneven traction and the tire with the least amount of traction will be the motivating force.

things are not always what they appear to be. over the decades you would be surprised the number of Cruiserheads that swore their trucks had LSD due to the capibility of the unit but then you show them that they do not have it and are shocked... some even denied not having it after the test was done.

and having LSD doesn't abolutly mean you will have better traction, some units are better than others at tranfering the traction over to the other wheel...

Its not written on the diff. Its on the plate on the firewall. It should have K085 for LSD and K082 for open.
The landcruiser LSD transfers only about 14% bias to the off side wheel, just enough to turn it in heavy going so it doesnt bog down.

I dont have any problems in sand with the tyres deflated. Suspension that can articulate well also helps

some situations open diffs may have both wheels spinning enen though only one shoud be, and it happens when the axles are loaded up or torqed up after that comes axle hopping.
