Does this appear to be “period correct” for a 1982 40 Series?

That looks like an 86120-14520 which is in the ball park for your truck. I don't know where the dates in the table came from but doing a little searching suggests this is correct for an 82. I can't be positive for an Australian market truck though.

It works but is very limited with those dinky speakers. 😊

I believe it’s 8/82 …. Australian market.

A Bluetooth amp under the seat and an ipod or cell phone make a good system without having to hack things up.
I’m afraid the only thing I’m going to listen to is the rattle of a 3B. 😁

Does it have drum brakes on the front axle? RHD got the insert dash on the 82 models but believe disc brale axles were only 83/84 in Australia.

Drum rear, disc front.

Drum rear, disc front.

I show Australia having front drum brakes on the BJ42 until 10/82. Rear would be a FF going back to 75 in Australia. BJ42 from 10/82-10/84 would have been a H55F in Australia. May have been a few exceptions with the a H41. FJ40 very few had the H55F. Does yours have a four speed or a five? Is it a LX model?

Not a LX / 4 Speed.

Australia doesn't the plaque on the A pillar with production year/month. They do have their own second plague with import date.

This picture shows the change to the transmission hump 10/82. Good chance your is pre 10/82 that was upgraded to a disc brake axle on the front.

Whatever it is, I’m enjoying it. 😊
ToyoDIY.com shows a range of 08/1990 - 09/1982 when you enter the VIN.
