Am I ridiculous for preferring a Land Cruiser over a LX470?

I had dinner with my cousin last week and we were joined by a married couple friends of his. Husband is a cool guy, career computer programmer. Wife is Canadian and kind of a bitch (not related). During the meal, husband was really excited to tell me about his new to him VTECH Del Sol. Wife was going on about her Honda Pilot.

When we got to a place for ice cream after, wife asked me why I said I had a truck when I just have a girl's car because it's a Lexus. I tried for about 2 seconds to give some perspective, explain that wives drive GXs and that I had a Land Cruiser, but decided it wasn't worth it since I wasn't the one going home in a Del Sol that night.

Some people are just idiots or blissfully ignorant.

That is a Bad A$$ demonstration pic you have there... Totally agree and the greatest sound out of my wife's mouth when doing some 4x4 with our Jeep owner friends is: "Are we going to make her go up there?"

I looked at her and laughed @MongooseGA and took my foot of the brakes. She was the only female in the group that night not complaining about back and neck pains during the evening meal ...

My fiancee has stopped asking if "we're going up that". If I point it in a direction, she'll just hold on.

Too many people here care about their image and think they are kings or something if they drive a "real" Land Cruiser. Some of these guys need a serious reality check.

I feel like this was meant for the GX forum

I get “is that a Lexus” almost on a weekly bases. “Why didn’t buy a Jeep?”

LX is for me and I don’t care about image.
1. They seem to be cheaper all condition/miles equal
2. Better all around with features mentioned above

I only get AHC argument, but its like $1k deal to convert? Still cheaper because of #1.

I personally use it 99% on paved roads and comfort is most important thing

I was looking for an LC also but found my LX470 for less money. I like the real wood trim and from what I've read here they're quieter. Let's face it OP, they're both station wagons, get over it ...

I have a 99LC simply because when I was looking almost 10 years ago I found a two owner clean, low mileage rig that a lady needed to sell and it was a screaming good deal. Love the rear locker when it’s needed and its plenty comfy, if I needed another I’d be looking for the best option for the price without regard to the nameplate. Most of us on this forum end up building our trucks to meet our needs, the buy is just about finding the best blank canvas.

What some people forget is like in uk the lexus didnt have the toyota credebility so Toyota did the lexus as a landruiser but kept the landcruiser front . but it has the extras ie sound proofing and all the goodies .It was called the amazon.we also had the lesser spec model ithink it was the gr i cant remember

After conquering a snow and ice covered mountain pass yesterday, I am glad I have AHC and the comfort-selective shocks. Capability AND comfort with the stock LTXs was surprising, with the help of ATRAC. Even the chunky tired 4wd Silverado following me couldn't manage as well.

I wound up with a 99 model LX470 because I couldn't find a reasonably priced 99 4Runner in any kind of decent shape. I didn't want an LC or LX because of the size. But for the price difference, I can live with it. I have learned to love the 100 series though. I'm glad it turned out as it did.

This won't be the first time that I've bought a car or truck as an alternative and it grew on me.

I was looking to replace my wrecked 98 100 and ended up with an 07 LX. As others have said the LX is much nicer on the inside, but I wasn't really particular on whether I found an LX or LC to replace. I had planned to rip out the AHC but ended up keeping it and I'm REALLY glad I did. It's a reliable system and the comfort is amazing. I just finished a 1400 mile trip up to PA and back and we were more comfortable than would have been in the LC (although if one is comparing comfort to an 80, there is very little difference between the LC and LX, ha!). The VVTI is also a nice improvement but of course that's not LC vs LX.

If someone is planning to do a lot of off-roading in an environment with tight trails and water crossings like AR, TN and the southeastern US, the LX has some neat features.

Retractable mirrors for tight trails.

Additional door seal. I think this is unique to an LX

I would like to add that according to Cruise the Land on youtube, the LX actually had lower production numbers than the Land Cruiser, which is contrary to most common statements.

Also, how did you yellow out your DRL's? I was considering doing the same but wasn't sure what to use, 3M clear vinyl, or another option. Looks cool!

Ha! They are yellowed from age because Lexus cheaped out and went to plastic lenses in 03+. Plus it was at dusk so color in photo is a little off. Wanna trade Me? 😂😂

US Sales numbers by year. The Sequoia took a bite out of LC and LX sales in 2001.
