Am I Crazy to Trade my 2015 LC for a 2012 FJ?

What do the financials look like? Do you have put money down for the FJ? Money back?

Do what's right for you, follow your gut. My 2012 trail edition 4runner has made a superb fishing vehicle for me. I frequently carry 7 rods inside overhead using $10 clothes bars. Plenty of room in the back for a decent cooler, 5 gallon buckets, a canopy, etc. FJ/Jeep may be better for tight off roading, but the length of the 4runner might be better for interior gear storage. tight lines!

With this type of price for a low milegage FJ, $34.8k and a salvage title, no way I'd consider swapping a 200 for one.

I was looking at 2012 with 55,000 miles for $32K. carfax revealed some sort of accident, the seller said he was not aware of it? Think I'll pass for now? Appreciate all the comments. Maybe a Taco with a shell, who knows?

I found the interior to be a bit cloistered. Visibility was poor (not just in the front). Plastics/interior bits seemed cheap but not in a good way.

They’re cool cars but the price for them doesn’t reflect the experience IMO. I’d rather have a 2 door wrangler or bronco.

Yes. I had an FJ, I loved the FJ, it was a great truck. I’ve since got married had a kid (went through a Gx470/ gx460) then, went to the 100 series and questioned all my previous choices - you could compare them part by part and justify the 100 every time, but really it was just how the 100 makes you feel that made the difference (solid, reliable, simple). After, we got a 200 (still have the 100) and would love an FJ again, because really I like all of these trucks but would not give up either of the two LC’s.

FENDER BULGE!!!!! This should eliminate FJ from your brain!

Known problem. No fix from factory. Will happen eventually to every FJ if you take it off-road. NOT due to someone jumping FJ.

Piling on with blind spots, horrible chopped top situation--any human with a reasonably tall torso won't be able to see without ducking down--, the fuel economy isn't any better than a 200, the suicide doors become a PITA, the rear hatch becomes a hindrance, and unless you get the Trail Teams edition--which is about the same money as a 200 series these days--it won't wow you off road.

I had one. Sold it. Bought the 200, kept the 80 around for a beater. However, I still use the 200 for 'off road' stuff, just not delibrately trying to wreck it.

I couldn't stand the rear barn door on my old GX470. That alone would keep me from buying a FJC. That said, you've gotta buy what fits your life the best. For me that's a 200, as I have kids and a dog, so having a true 4 door vs the suicide doors makes the most sense for me. I also wanted the V8 and the tail gate vs the V6 and barn door.
