I am finally mounting my rod rack to the LC. I am torn between mounting it to the rear via a 2in receiver hitch or mounting it to the front via frame mounted pins. Putting it in the back reduces road grime and rock chips on your reels but putting it on the back reduces the use of our tailgate.

Has anyone mounted one to the front? If not does anyone have advice on where to mount the receiver points up front? I have included some pictures for reference.

Thank you!

I just bought a 2000 land cruiser and I already have the same cooler/rod rack that I also would like to but a receiver on the front.

After much legwork calling about every welder (not really but it felt like it) in my area I came up with a different solution. I bought a wilco offroad swing hitch and mounted it on the back. The pics are of the set up on my buddies F-150, not my 100 series, but you get the idea. This is actually a great solution, b/c you still get the use of your tailgate and get to keep your rods out of the road grime. THe one issue is the hitch on my 100 series is not deep enough for the wedge lock on the Wilco hitch swing, so I have to make some adjustments there.

Let me know what you come up with.

I have a buddy that I asked and he was able to find a post on this site about using a Reese 37042 mount that fit the front. Have you tried that?

I have looked into that, but it ends up mounting the basket so low it was a deal-breaker for me. Thanks for the suggestion!

I ordered the Reese 37042 and just installed it early today before night time. I haven’t attached my basket yet but here is a picture of the hitch. I had to drill two new holes in the mounting bracket because the holes didn’t line up. The bottom of the hitch is 9.5 inches off the ground. I will attach the basket tomorrow and give you a heads up

So here is a picture of the rack on the LC. The rack does look low however it isn’t any lower than the receiver hitch. Which is 9.5”

Bought and installed a new hitch that allows me to use the hitch swing on my LC. Fantastic solution, best of all worlds, still having access to the tailgate for seating, cooking, etc. Much more expensive than I would have hoped, but it works.
