Holy Cow! It took me an hour and a half to get that sucker
off the 80.
Tips:1) Remove the power steering tank and attachment bracket
to get the alt out after it's freed from it's bolt and adjuster.
2) the thing sticks to the upper bracket due to tight fit
so BF screwdriver and a BFH help to coax it free.
3) Torx screwdriver bits are a must for the nuts and a palm
driver doesn't hurt either. No room in the engine bay in that area.

After a short break I'm going back for the install. Here's hoping THAT
part is easy.

This ain't no one  job Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

feel for you david.......... I have to replace my 62 alternator and it is just as big of a PITA...... there is just no easy way to get to them

good luck on the install!!!

Ta Da !!!!

Geez, that job SUCKS! It is done however. :grinpimp:
1 hour to re-install. Lining those bolts up was murder.
I thought of JP as I was climbing all over the motor for
the "right" angles to see/lineup/turn/adjust/tighten stuff.
Some of the work was done from underneath. Grease
Monkey stuff for sure. :) I shed blood from both arms so
it ought to be fine. ;)
Ohm....cruiser,cruiser,cruiser....Ohm

Sounds like my ordeal when I had to replace the contacts in my starter. It sits in the V of the V8 on top of the block UNDERNEATH the intake manifold. I should not have to see the intake valves to replace starter contacts!!!!!

How many miles on your 80, Dave? Mine has 200K+ and still has the original alternator. (Knock on wood..... )

You guys are lucky. I've got 160K on my 80 and am on my 3rd alternator running stock electronics and nothing else... :crybaby:

Installed my alternator today in the 62; I was pleasently surprised when it only took me a grand total of 1hour and 15 mins  and I only busted one knuckle open :D

hey now I can use my winch!!!!!!

It may be a one  job, but I see it required some blood. :grinpimp:
