What would be damaged if I where to wire a new plug up on my alternator wrong and then try start my hj61 12ht?.

Vehicle will now not start but all fuses appear to be OK in the fuse box. I did not smell anything burn. There was a decent spark when I hooked the battery up at the negative terminal

Thanks for the info, has been helpful. Although I now believe I have the alternator plug wired up correctly, so I'm unsure why it would have fried something

It could still be a fusible link blown that's stopping it starting. They have flame proof insulation, and may look ok but be fried underneath the insulation.
Good luck.

can u post photos Mate ?

i can help here .......

This is how I've setup the alternator loom for now, I cut the old duetch plug off and just put terminal clips in there in the same order. When I put the negative back on the battery there was a big spark..

As you can see on the loom near the alternator there is also a fuseable link that I have taken the 100 amp fuse out as it was fried

It looks like your main charge wire is connected directly to ground in pic 3. Are you sure there isn't supposed to be an insulated spacer on that terminal?
That's the b+ terminal and has to be insulated from ground.

Your b+ main charge wire is shorted to ground . It looks like it's missing a insulator. pic no 3. post#9
