Have a 2004 LX with an alternator that looks like this. Note the gold heat shield that mounts with the 8mm screws. Note the orientation of the screws.

The only OE alt I was able to find was a reman part 27060-50360-84. This alt came sans heat shield and the original part doesn't mount. Note threaded holes on side.

Having a hard time with search fu in finding the correct shield for the new 50360 part. Anyone have a link? Or is one required with the updated part? As close as it is to the manifold I gotta believe it wants one on it. I just don't see any in the catalogs or images.

Brand new (NOT reman) OEM unit can still be bought for $724. It has the bolt holes for mounting the shield.

Well, already have the 50360 version. Would rather not spend $700+ if it’s only a matter of finding a shield. If it’s needed.

Anyone installed the this part who can confirm ?

aah why does the 2004 LC's have a heat shield? what Toyo engineers suddenly realize there's heat close to the manifold? cause my 2k doesnt have a shield.

But you said the original shield won’t mount on that reman.

I have no idea what the part number is for the shield. Can’t find it on any of the in-depth diagrams.
My assumption was the part number change was an amperage or electronic change, not one of form factor. The 50360 is what I was able to find and I bought it. But now that it’s here and the two are side by side I need to sort through the shield issue. My limited research indicated the alternator would connect - which it does - just didn’t consider the possibility the shield would be different.

So… at this point I’m not sure if one is even required. That’s question #1. Can someone who as installed a 27060-50360 verify if their original had a shield? The end cap is plastic and it’s fairly close to the manifold.

Question #2 then would be what is the PN for the shield. I can’t find it in diagrams either.

Okay, I *think* I found the PN for the OE alternator heat shield. It's 27039-17230. The links in the part diagrams are a bit wonky, so it's hard to say for certain. But this appears to be the part:

I don't see the same in any other diagrams or in any other on-line images so I'm leaning toward this being a part for the 50330 that was the original factory part for the 2004 LX. The 50360 part shows the plastic end cap only in diagrams and pictures. My guess is there was a change either to the heat rating of the plastic or of the electronics that made this no longer be necessary.

And the 50360 is shown as the part superseding the 50330. So Toyota if Toyota intended this to be the replacement path and a shield was a requirement then one would think those would be commonly bought together and discussed.

After a bit more searching, I found this vid on YouTube. In it, you can see the later version of the alternator going in from below with no heat shield. Another data point leading me to believe not shield is required.

At this point I'm going to assume the shield was require for the specific electronics in the 50330 version only and I'm going to run with the 50360 that I have as-is, sans shield. I plan to replace the steering rack and pump next spring and if there are signs of heat damage I'll deal with it then.

For future reference, here are the part numbers by year:
