Where in the vancouver area can a guy get alternator brushes and regulator for the 24 volt alt. I am having an issue that at idle I am not charging as high as I used to be. As well as under load the charge is higher but I don't think its as high as it was.

I will check all the other things it cold be first, belts wires dirty connections but still would like a set in case they go.

Brighouse Electric in Richmond rebuilds all kinds of alternators...including 24v. They should be able to source brushes.
604-273-4904, they used to be at Three Rd and Bridgeport, recently moved closer to Costco. (888 Beckwith is the new address I believe).

you can get them from Toyota for $5 each...

And with a bit of practice you can install them in about 30 minutes or less... including finding that brush spring that flies across the room ;)

Very easy to do... Is there a tech article on this yet? (yeah, I know, I could use the search feature to find out).

Are they the same brushes that are used in the 12 volt alt.

Yes.

27371-56070 is the number, with a change up to 27371-54412. Applies to scads of applications.

Burger,

Check your external voltage regulator. My voltage can be all over the place and I have been told that this is due to the ext regulator. You can clean it up and tweak it a bit. Look in the FSM, the voltage range is quite broad for the ext regulator.

The auto electric RB guy we use explained (after I had him check a number of used external 24v ext regulators) that when the brushes get to the end of their usable length the efficiency of the contact is reduced and it causes the Regulator duty cycles to go way high and then cook em. So brushes are one of those things best replaced before they wear right out.

Thanks guys.Dude I wil check out the regulator as I have heard the same. I am leaning towards the brushes though as it is rpm dependant on my output.

Cheers
