I PM'd CDan this weekend, and it appears that Toyota will not allow him to purchase Lexus parts through his Toyota dealership. With that determined, does anyone have a suggestion on where I might find a "competent" parts dealer? Though no one can take CDan's place (or likely beat his prices/customer service), I need to find someone who knows more about the LX than "yeah, I got that touch-up paint in stock"............You know what I mean, someone who really knows that it IS possible for an LX to leave the pavement.....

I think fj55-100 is a Lexus dealership guy, you might PM him to see what he can do/recommend.

I have to go to Greenville, SC, to the Lexus of Greenville dealership for my wife's car. They have a combined LX and Toy franchise, so the parts people have been willing (so far, anywayy) to look up matching LX-Toy part numbers for me and I can order from my local Toy dealership (or C-Dan).

If you're looking for institutional off-road experience/expertise in the LX, you'll have to go to Christo Slee and robbie at sleeoffroad. PM them for your questions, and C-Dan for parts.

Interesting. I ordered some a/c hoses and such, got the part number from my local Lexus dealership, got their price, then called a few Toyota dealerships told them I had the Lexus part number and they said there was no such thing. There was only one part number, it was shared between Lexus and Toyota, they said that anytime they have the exact same part it's the same part number to not be confusing. It sounded legit, obviously there are Lexus only parts which would not be looked up in a Toyota system, but the 3 places I called verified the Toy/Lexus #s were the same on the same part.

I too have been looking for a good Lexus parts source for stuff for my wife's IS300 which is all Lexus, nothing a Toy dealer can do, except order touch-up paint, Hocker did get me that.

Let me clarify a bit:


If a part is common between a Lexus and Toyota the part number is exactly the same. IE a 53301-60250 hood fits both an LX450 and an 80 series Cruiser. In this case a Lexus dealer AND a Toyota dealer can buy it. A Lexus dealer will pay more and it will sell for more because Lexus ships everything on premium freight and they wrap the added expense into the cost of the part.

If a specific part fits ONLY a Lexus (say an LX450 fender because it has additional holes in it for the cladding or an LS400 hood) then it has to be obtained through a Lexus dealer. Conversly, A lexus dealer can not buy a Corolla hood from Toyota.

You've got it right. All the LX-Toy franchise parts desk at LX of G-ville was doing for me was telling me which LX parts for my wife's car could also be ordered from Toy (cheaper and local, since the LX dealership is in the next state and there's a Toy dealership in Asheville).
But even with the extra cost for shippping, C-Dan can beat the local dalership's price on most Toy parts. Plus he knows what you'll need to R&R the part and is very helpful, compared with the nice young lady at the dealership parts counter. (I think the certified parts guys are in the back, where they don't get bothered by the customers.)
