Hello mudders. The wife and I got our feet wet with a 200 in November. Have made no trips as of yet but we're about to take a drive over to Colorado Springs to see her grandmother. We had a baby at the beginning of the pandemic that she has yet to meet (we'll also have our other two kids totaling a 5, 3, and 1 year old). Her Christmas trip to Alabama wasn't really feasible with the state of everything last year. We'll be trying to get there as quick as possible (traveling up through St. Louis and then straight across from there. I expect we will be prepared to leave Colorado Springs on Wednesday which would give us 4 days to get back. I am hoping there are some relatively easy trails or recommended stops either somewhat near Col. Springs or along the way back. Wouldn't be opposed to camping a night or two in some good state parks or something. Growing up we always traveled west strictly for hiking, I've never used my brainpower to plan a trip with the ability to make real use of a vehicle. Exciting stuff! We'll be rocking a hitch carrier and riding on stock size LT rated Ridge Grapplers. Looking forward to our 2016's maiden voyage (down to the gulf and back didn't really count in my book).

Not familiar with the Colorado Springs area, but I did make a similar trip from Chattanooga to Breckenridge this summer. Our kids (3 and 6 this summer) do really well on the road, but the key for us is ~4 hours in the morning driving, a longer lunch stop (1-2 hours with some activity as well as lunch and potty) then 4 hours, then dinner stop, then an hour or two before bed. The 200 is great for travelling. If you're getting a little ways into the mountains, we did part of the Mosquito Pass road from Alma and it was great. It had some tricky spots but nothing I wouldn't do in a stock 200.

Have fun!

If your looking for a spot to boreal up the Kansas drive a bit… Wilson State Park is about 8 miles from 70. It is a easy place to spend a night. It’s really quiet and directly on Lake Wilson.

It’s about 5.5 hours from Denver, we usually hit it on the way out west, to break up that run of 70 from KC to Denver area.

We are actually here right now on our way west. I can grab a few shots in the morning.
