Anyone know of any effective mods that can be done to the SD-40 to enhance performance?

outside of jetting for more fuel, you'll run into the more air problem. I am not sure if/how to modify the venturi to allow more air to flow in. Just thinking out loud!
That brings up a point for me (sorry to hijack). My understanding is that you’re limited on swapping out intake manifolds on the early F engines due to their configuration, correct?

Holley now has a one barrel Sniper system that I would take a close look at... looks like it would bolt on... based on Autolite 1100.
