On a 88 62, is the air pump the same thing as a smog pump on the 60's? Right above the alternator on the right side of the engine as you look into the engine.

Mine has a metallic ring while motor is running above 1000 rpms, kinda metal on metal bearing type noise. Looking to replace it but not really sure what it is called. FSM calls it the air pump but on mud everything is smog pump this and that...

Thanks

Same thing. Smog pump = air pump. The smog pump is an air pump. They call it a smog pump because it is a part of the emissions control system. Emissions = smog.

Oh, sorry. I thought you were inquiring about the terminology.

Can't help you with the bracket question; I don't know the answer. Guess you'd have to look at 'em side by side and compare.

:)
