Hi, I’m new here so not too sure how it all works but hopefully someone has come across this before because hours of googling and I’ve come up with nothing. Our son has just bought a “pod style, high air glow air filter” for his 1993, 1FZ-FE, this is the one with an air flow meter (not air mass meter - this is in 94 and after models). Now problem is we want an air straightener for it but can’t seem to find one that is recommended for an air flow meter. Has anyone fitted and air straightener to this model without adding a turbo. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Some pics below of manual for new engine outline differences between new (up to and including the 1993 engine) and the old (1994 and on engine). Please feel free to reuse and repost these anywhere as I just happened to find them by chance but they have been really helpful. Sorry for the pics as I had to get 8 pages to fit in 5 photos.

Toyota engineered these vehicles to run for hundreds of thousands of miles in extremely rough conditions. Part of this engineering includes their amazing air filter. You can even buy a washable oem filter from Toyota.

By simply adding a straight intake and high flow air filter to am 80 series there will be no discernable improvement in power or efficiency. The only thing an aftermarket air filter will give your son is a shortened life span of the motor because it will not filter as well as an oem unit.

Don't fix it if it ain't broke.

I'm not sure this is what the OP meant.

An air straightener in some contexts looks like this. It is a short cross section that intends to create laminar flow after the air filter. That means non-turbulent airflow. Theoretically this smoother flow is more uniform and a higher flow rate than turbulent flow.

I bought one on a whim but have not installed it. Is this snake oil or a real benefit? I do not know.

Geek link here.
