Hello, I have been trying to put a new OEM air conditioning belt on and it just will not fit. The adjustment pulley is loosened all the way and there is no way to loosen the air conditioning compressor. The OEM belt is shorter than the after market belt that the PO had on there, but, the aftermarket belt is too long and takes up all the pulley adjustment before it is tight. The part number on the OEM belt is 99332-11180-83. Can anyone verify that this is the right OEM belt for an FJ62 - 1988? Thanks for any info, this stupid belt issue has my truck down now....

btw, I am also changing the other two belts and the part numbers on them are 90916-02193-B and 90916-02141. They are all Mitsubishi, Toyota Belts. Are these the correct part numbers? They are alot wider than the aftermarket belts the PO had on here. I hope these are not short also... Thanks in advance for any info...

i would just measure the old belt and run to the parts store and get another one the same length

I think there was a change in belt length, not sure when but almost positive there is a difference between 88 and 90 years.

so was the old belt on and running? why won't it fit now?

I think he means that the old belt left no adjustment on the bracket...he wants want that it's all the way out on the adjustment of the bracket.

+ 1 for a run to the part store for a belt that is in between the "stock" one they sold you and the "old" belt you took off.

FYI, parts stores like NAPA, Shuck's, Pep Boys ect. have parts that will work on our trucks, but were not made for our trucks. Sometimes you just have to order from a Toyota exclusive place to get the right stuff. From my experience that's especially true for cooling system components.

The PO had 3 belts in there that were all too long and all the adjusters were at the end and the belts were loose and slipping. Especially the air cond. belt.

The belts are done now, here is the skinny:

Yes, there is a change in air conditioning belts, it seems it was Aug. of 1988. My truck is a March, 1988 build date and my VIN number calls for Air cond. belt number 99332-11180-83. So, that is the one I tried, but, it would not go on. No way. Anyway, the Toyota parts guy was smart and he went in back and got me another belt that was just a hair longer. This one went on tight, I had to bump the motor to get it on, but, it was perfect. Adjuster pulley is less than the middle and the belt is tight. Here is the part number of this belt - 90916-02193-77. This belt is a little beefer than the other part number and unfortunately it is $9 more, but, believe me it is worth it. It fits perfect. BTW, the OEM belts are alot wider and beefier than the after market belts.

btw, the Toyota Parts Guys in Northridge, Ca gave me 20% off for being a member of I8mud.com. This place has already saved me money, Great ! Thanks Guys !

hjcda,

Glad you got a belt that works. I went to both Shucks and NAPA when I did my belts last summer. I had to try several belts before getting the ones I needed, so thank you for part number info. The only thing about the Toyota dealers in my area is that they have to special order anything for a land cruiser pre-1991.

My belts are pretty "beefy" though so it may just depend on who picks the belts for you. I know the FSM talks about correct belt height in the pulley's channel. Mine are all good to go.
