Do most of the P/S conversions out there require removal of stock air cleaner can and related hardware?

Welcome.

It would completly depend on what pump mount bracket you go with, and the year of your truck and or the air cleaner configuration.

Stock F engine and air cleaner assembly could be in the way, but you have options...remote res, etc.

Good luck!

It was not a problem on my '77 using a Saginaw pump with a factory FJ40 steering gear. The stock air cleaner worked without any modification.

Since there is no year or make of vehicle specified, I'll hazard a guess that it's NOT the FJ60 in your avitar, which would have come stock with PS. That said, if you're in a non-smog state with a pre-PS motor, the easiest setup is to run the pump on the lower left [driver's] side of the engine, with the alternator up top on the passenger side. This configuration should NOT interefere with either type of air cleaner .

Mark--currently have manual sag box but considering future upgrade to power. Are the brackets available for these locations for a 71 FJ40 or do they need to be fabbed? Thanks for any info!

I made a bracket to fit a 60 pump on the stock Alt bracket location. Fits under the F aircleaner.

I don't want to hijack oldgrey60's thread, but on the assumption [again] that we are talking about a pre 79 FJ, the brackets we are talking about ARE available. The alternator cradle is standard 2F issue; the p/s pump bracket is something I have manufuctured and sell thru my shop. They are listed on the specials page of my website, linked below. There are dozens of threads on this forum of this bracket installed on MUD members rigs. All are happy customers.
