So I spend all weekend replacing the VC gasket, repainting it, replacing plugs/wires/grommets, and cleaning the throttle body, only to end up with another oil leak!

When I was finished, the truck started just fine, idles much smoother, and had more oil pressure. Sweet! Until I looked at the driveway the next day and noticed a small oil slick. I'm guessing the extra oil pressure blew out the next weakest seal (most likely upper pan arch) and now instead of a small oil leak that never dripped, my LC is banished from the driveway.

I dont feel like spending the weekend replacing another gasket so I'm throwing in the towel and paying a shop to do this.

i feel your pain ! i have more oil leaks than i can track down and no time or money to fix them and its my DD. not to mention a new t case leak ! And i have zero :wrench:

this went from a great relationship to a love hate relationship really fast.

Look real good at the rear of the VC before doing anything else. The VC gasket can slip out easily in the rear when re-installing.

Ya that looks like that oil is sliding down around the tranny not through the bottom hole where the rear main would leak from.

You can't create more pressure to blow seals out- you just f'd up- prob on backside of cover- reach back there your hand should have fresh oil on it.

.....Rinse.Repeat.

I decided long ago, oil is cheap. Yeah it sucks to have a leaking engine, it's not worth fixing.

:crybaby: I think thats what happened. Stuffed a rag at the back of the VC, drove around the block and noticed some fresh oil. Thats what I get for ignoring everyones advise to use FIPG to hold the VC gasket in place. Looks like I get to do it again this Sat.

On a side note, I started the LC up this morning to move it from the driveway and noticed a HUGE cloud of smoke out of the exhaust. It never did this before. When working with the VC off, it was really windy outside and lots of sand was blowing around. Could some of this gotten in the engine and caused the valve guides to leak?

Almost ready to say F' it and have Slee drop in a 2UZ-FE.

X2, ended up doing my VC gasket twice because it slipped out at the rear and I did not check the first time.

Did you have to get a new gasket? I'm afraid that mine is now deformed.

Just doing your part to support big oil companies? Yeah, me too.

Smoke:

Since you cleaned out your manifold and related stuff you still may have some left over residual cleaner burning out. Drive it on the Highway at highway speeds for 15-20 mins and see if the smoke clears up.

I pinched mine and was creased pretty bad, it also got baked back there the week or two I drove around like that. Spend $15-$20 and get a new one.

I pinched mine the first time also....in the back. wasn't happy about it at the time thats for sure. using a little bit of sealant to hold in the gasket worked for me the second time around. Also it is much faster the 2nd time around also. No biggie. Grab a few beers and relax, take your time. Better than bringing it to a shop.

I should change the thread title to "Finally...no more leaks"

Thanks for the suggestions, I did f-up and pinch the rear of the VC gasket. Replaced it over the weekend with a new one, did the dizzy o ring + cap/rotor, advanced the timing to 7degrees and all is good. All leaks are gone, no CELS, smooth idle and 'maybe' a bit more power. Took way less time the second round too. FIPG really helped keep the rear of the gasket it place.
