Hi all,

I have a 2000 Landcruiser, and have been considering adding aftermarket headrest monitors (I have an aftermarket radio with DVD output). I'm looking for anyone with experience with these.

I realize there are a lot of options, but I wondering if anyone has experience with the universal headrest monitors on ebay in the $120 to $150 range (I'm simply looking at this as a cheap project...).

I have used the strap on headrest monitors and like them, and I have seen posts on using an ipad for rear seat entertainment, and I like both these solutions. But what I'm really looking for is anyone with experience on these cheap universal headrest monitors on ebay (did the color match, what was the quality of the screen, was it worth it, etc). Also, pictures would be great.

Please share if you have experience with these. Thanks.

I have/had them and if I were to do it all over again I would go with the strap on monitors or do what the guy did in the 80's section did. He put monitors in that are on flip down visors in the back seat. That is a nice set up and tucks out the way so no one would knows they are there when you parked you car in a bad part of town. You can get the Ipad mounts for $20.00 so you can add them anytime but of course if you have 2 kids you need 2 ipads.

On my cheap head rest monitors the first monitor fell and broke wires inside when I was messing around with the kids and bouncing pretty hard back and forth in the seat. The second one went out after the wife got in an accident.

I went to get them replaced and the manufacturer had changed the wiring so the shop that was going to swap them out was going to have to start the install all over. They wanted an extra $50.00 for the install and wanted the car for a few more hours than what was scheduled. So it is paid for but has not re installed since she crashed the car between the appointments.

The wife also complains about the headrest not sticking as far forward as the stock ones so she always puts things between her head and the headrest on long road trips.

On top of that , this weekend we went up to our cabin and the renters had broken the DVD player. Sure would have been nice to have been able to pull the portable ones out of the car.

The car is still in the shop after the accident and I will have replaced since it is already paid for but part of me really just wants to honor my neighbors here in SF and pull them out and get strap ons. :)

Any Pictures of Aftermarket Headrest Monitors

Thanks for the reply.

I would love to see some pictures if anyone has any of these aftermarket headrest monitors installed, and/or brand name recommendations (or experiences), again I'm specifically interested in the low cost ones listed on ebay.

Thanks

I have the ess from crutchfield I believe they were about $350 for the pair very happy with them. I disagree with everybody saying they would rather have an iPad or portable units it's nice because I can control the video from the front and go back to listening to the radio or pandora while movies are playing out back for the kids. They even have wireless headphone capabilities and av in at the headrest. Pretty trick for the $.

I have a set in my 2002 with grey leather interior. They are 9" screens made by T-View that cost $125-150 (forgot exactly how much). The color matched almost perfectly, as no one has ever noticed any mismatch, myself included. Quality is decent, as is video quality. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with the purchase.

I'll post pics tomorrow when I have a camera handy. I know, what a tease right!! ;)

Here's my setup. Video feeds from the factory DVD player. Price ($125-150) was for the pair. May have been refurbished, but good as new IMO.
