Backstory:
1971 FJ40 with a new to me 2F (not rebuilt) which ran well. Approximately 120k miles. My Holley Sniper was having issues, so I sent it off to Holley for repair. Turns out the harness was bad. So I reinstalled the Holley Sniper and harness.
Go to start the rig, small backfire and dies. Start it again and I hear a rhythmic thud noise, which sounds like it’s coming from the block. Engine ran like this for maybe 2 second before I shut it down.
Pulled the valve cover and nothing inconspicuous is apparent. Valve tightness seems appropriate and no obvious deformities to the valve push rods.
I have yet to drain the oil or compression check the cylinders as I am devastated but am expecting the worst.
Any other advice or recommendations are welcome. Thanks
