New manufacturer...

It maybe cheaper than Traxxas or any other leading manufacturer, but i'm not sure of the quality...

What you want to look for is if it has spare parts readily available to purchase if needed. That is the advantage of other leading brands... Most cheapo's are not compatible with the spare parts of other manufacturers...

The sales guy said they carry all kinds of parts. It was $199 and 4x4. I did some research when I got home. Mixed reviews. I decided on a Traxxas Stampede Monster Jam edition. $220, 2WD, all the parts we'll ever need, easy to upgrade and it seems like it will take a beating (just like you guys recommended)

I'll buy an extra battery and an upgraded charger.

Here's what he'll open Christmas morning. I also grabbed a much better charger and an extra 4500mAh battery for him. I can't lie.......I want one for myself now. Looking for something on CL so he and I can run together.

Thanks for everyone's help. :santa:

Sweet! Good choice :bounce2:
Just my couple of pennies here, I suggest you get the batteries charged and familiarize yourself with the manual. The radio you hold in your hand might need to be "paired" with the receiver in the truck. Sometimes this involves a series of holding a tiny button down while working the throttle and such... Stuff you don't want to try and quickly figure out when ya got a 7 year old bouncing off the walls wantin' to drive it! Plus, there might be a "half throttle" setting to program into it which is a neat feature for newbs young and old. ;)

Thanks for that. I've been charging/recharging the battery for the last few days to make sure we had one ready to go Christmas morning. We already wrapped everything, so I may be stuck fumbling with the controller early Wednesday morning.

The reason I ended up with the Slash over the Stampede was the body/tire set up. The big tires on the Stampede that stick way out look like they'll catch a curb or rock and break stuff easier than the Slash with its wrap around bumper and body that covers the tires.

I'm on the lookout for a 4x4 Stampede for myself and then we'll see which one he likes and can control better. I'll take whatever is left over. All I needed was another expensive hobby :(

Well?? :D

My son and I each got a Slash. Five minutes into the first battery, and we already had carnage that grounded one truck (broken rear hub.) image-4080438038.jpg I picked up a new set of rear hubs at the hobby shop today for a whopping $3, so we are back in business! image-4019005051.jpg I'm loving the training mode built in to the ESC. Perfect for the first timer.

Yeah...... he's digging it! It's fast, and that 4500mAh battery lasts much longer than the 3000mAh that comes with the truck. It seems like its a little faster with that 4500 battery too.

I'm taking him to the RC track tomorrow. He's only run it in our neighborhood so far. The first full speed turn he did had that truck flipping, bouncing and rolling about 20 times....... it landed right back on it's wheels and he mashed the gas for more! Just some scrapes.

It doesn't go very well in the grass, but I'm sure the dirt track will be great. I almost bought a 2nd Slash for me. The 4x4 VXL version..... but I'm glad I passed. I think I'll get something a little more monster truck-ish or crawler type.

Awesome!

Get the aluminum ones, they are about $22 I think. They are worth it. I had broken two of the plastic ones and since I had replced them with aluminum, they've been great for three years now.

Have fun...

If we break more, I'll probably head that direction. I've also seen a company (RPM?) that makes nylon parts that are supposed to be pretty stout, but not as expensive.

We've been having a blast with them. He's off of beginner mode now.

I'm surprised at how long these lipo batteries last. With these 2s, 5000 mAh batteries & the stock brushed motor, I just had a 37 minute run driving it pretty hard. He got 44 mins out of his, but he's a little more conservative with the throttle.

Fixing more carnage...

U got him hooked!! Wait til he gets his first real car....he will have it modded before he has a license!

Do u still like the RC car? Or has the novelty of it warn off at all?

He was so proud of himself (well, I was too) when he swapped out a broken rear A-arm. He did all the work, I just gave him some direction. He couldn't stop marveling at his wrenching skills for the rest of the afternoon!

We're still having fun with them. We made a ramp today. We're talking about making a track in the backyard.

Well, your son definitely looks like he is "in the zone" focused on his work.

Looks fun and prolly a little cheaper than workin on the cruiser.

look into the 1/18th ecx ruckus.. got one each for my 7yr old and my 9yr old.. $100

I got myself a 1/10th Armma Granite slightly used for $50 ($250 new) and after watching bigsquids review... woooooo

I have a Slash VXL 4X4. It's a blast. Put a 3 cell LiPo battery and the damn thing will literally do 60+MPH. It's completley uncontrollable at that speed though. I stick to two cell LiPo's. If I could go do it over again, I would have got a Team Associated. They "waterproofness" of the Traxxas is nice, but I haven't ever had on the track without breaking something. I am a big kid and like to do crazy stuff with it, but it has broken in places (hubs, steering servo) where it shouldn't break that easily. If you are going to get yourself something, seriously go for the Team Associated truck. I have two buddies who have the two wheel drive version, and they just changed tires and wheel and haven't broken anything. More importantly, I have driven their trucks and didn't break anything.
