My 83 has a 5.3L Vortec, NV4500 & 38mm Toyota split case, tranny & tc are mated via and Advance Adapters 50-0214 adapter. I pulled apart the recently rebuilt TC since I was hearing an intermittent squeal and shifter (Georg’s twin sticks) was popping out of 4wd…. The TC internals look ok except the the detent balls look a little out of round. I am going to order new gaskets/seals etc.

A question I have is when I separated the front part of the TC from the adapter some oil came out. Could I have installed a/the seals incorrectly? Or is it common to have oil in between these? Can’t tell whether it is transmission or TC oil but from the picture it appears to be from the tranny.

All oil seals eventually leak that are trying to seal a spinning shaft. If there’s the slightest run out play in the shaft (doesn’t spin perfectly round) that tiny bit of wobble will make a seal’s job very difficult.

@cruisermatt has solved my issue with the oil between the TC & the AA adapter I mentioned in the opening post. An unused bolt hole needs to be plugged! Thanks Matt
