Since switching my tires from 35's to 37's I've got a minor issue where the spare tire on the swingout now partially covers the taillight and blinker. I've spoken with a LEO friend and he assures me it's not a problem legally. However, I notice that when I'm turning right (the side with the blocked light) that cars behind me don't always see that I'm planning to turn. So I'm going to add some secondary brake and blinkers to the rear bumper. I'm looking for some recommendations for some good lights, incandescent or led, that are waterproof and decent quality and also look good and appropriate for an 80. Any tips for wiring these would also be helpful.

If you've got pics (and better yet, a link) of some lights you'd recommend, I'd love to see them.

They make little 1" round amber or red LED that are surprisingly bright. Would be easy to install. You can find them on Amazon or I get them locally at Six States Distributing if you have one near you or maybe just about any place that supplies trailer parts.
If I don't find something that looks like it "belongs" on an 80 then it might just end up being the little 1" ones.

Made me think of this:

Factory Bumper Swing Out Build, see posts #20, 23, and 27. The link to Amazon is broken though, but it was "Command Electronics Clear Red 22 LED 6" Oval Trailer Truck Stop Turn Brake Tail Lights/Grommets", something like this:
Amazon product ASIN B00GTZJKRY
There are tons of these oval options and while they would definitely do the job, they also just scream cheapo trailer lights. Hoping to find something that looks like it "belongs" on an 80 a bit more, but thanks for the response.

Funny I have the same issue.. and I just ordered these to mount on the bumper... I was looking for something more surface mounted.
I received them a week ago they look well built and of good quality, but I have not had the time to install yet.

I guess I was thinking like a line of 3 or 4 of these on each side in the bumper? A lot smaller than the 1" versions. Wouldn't be cheap though at $10 each. As small as they are you'd hardly notice them when they weren't lit up.

well s***, I added to my wish list. Thanks a lot :)

I plan on fabbing some brackets/mounts to the sheet metal under the bumper corners to mount a set of these to. I like the Brake/Reverse/Work light combo and they look much better than trailer lights. I shouldn't be to hard. Cutting the holes out in the rubber bumper corners and making clean precise cuts will likely be the hardest part. I plan to wire the White Reverse/Work light center portion to a remote key fob for Work lights. When I am towing the M100 it will keep the light low and light up the camp are well. Crawl in the RTT sleep and if I need light just hit the remote. Same goes if I need to back up and want extra reverse lights.

Doesn’t look like a bad option if you can keep them flush, or even inset a little on the bumper. Do you know the dimensions?

I run Narva rear LED lights on my FJ40. They are really nicely made and bright and combine all of the functions that you need. They are also flush mount and look great.

Pic (not mine).

Dissent Offroad is installing these LED lights on the bumper currently being made for my rig. Not sure of the brand, but Ben would likely be able to help you out. 1 (530) 588-2494

They are not very big but I can't answer that question as I am not a G Wagon owner. I will see if I can run one down and measure the rear fog lights on one.

If your going LED, you'll likely have to swap out your relay or it will bling really fast. Ran into this on the Delta front led lights. Can't remember what I went to but it's likely posted here somewhere.
yeah, I dealt with a similar thing on my Tacoma, definitely a good thing to consider to avoid the fast blinking.. LED's are preferable for the lower amp draw, but the goal is just to make brake and indicator lights for visible to other drivers so if their simple incandescent lights, so be it.

Have you considered putting the lights up high on the rack? You could even get those multicolor led strips that have white yellow and red and get a lot of attention not endorsing this one as i have no experience with it.. Amazon product ASIN B08LBGHVZB

Slee has integrated signal/brake lights in his 200 bumper. Might determine what lights they are.

I've been considering same mod for the same reasons. But 4x4labs bumper does not offer a nice rear facing surface like most.
