As i approach the finishes on my lv, i am considering options for the ac. I planned on using a Vintage Air unit. This is my question, i have access to a fj60, is it possible to use any of the ac components in my lv? Compressor, hoses, maybe even whole unit? I am thinking the system isnt worth the work.

Agreed

That is my same initial conclusion. Just looking to see if anyone had done some good work with one of these older units. Hate to not take advantage if i have one sitting here.

Thanks,
Dukes

I am sure you could use it. Just will require a little fab maybe.

yes, I have the Vintage Air gen IV unit, but it is huge under the dash. I have everything under the hood installed, but just can't get myself to have this huge thing sticking under the dash. what other manufacturers are out there? installing in mine would require cutting out glove box and be difficult running ducts to vents already cut into dash.

Can't get it any higher without too much damage under dash.

Wow. I agree with yeah, that thing looks massive mounted there. A friend was selling an ac unit from his Cruiser, it wasn't anywhere near as big as that. I'll find out what brand it is.

If you look at some of the pics from LV's that Jonathan Ward did, he used a unit that is smaller than that. Maybe Gen III? I can't recall the exact name/unit right now, but I thought it was something like Gen ???? Info was in one of the older posts.

Edit: looking at this pic you can see that the glovebox is bolted closed. I don't care for that look. But if you look at the pic you can see that he has used a Hurricane unit, by Old Air Products. Not sure which one, but I bet if you called and talk w tech they would know. Be sure to post your findings.

Though not yet installed, I have the OldAir Hurricane system sitting in a box and ready for my rig. We will be making the glove box functional only as a holder for the registration/papers, as I have a Tuffy Console. This means cutting and welding the glovebox to clear the unit. It definitely will allow the Hurricane to fit nicely behind the dash with a minimal amount of the unit showing below. It will be higher and a little left of the setup on the TLC rig. Once this is done, I will definitely post pics.

Perfect. Steve, what is your rig?

I looked, but cannot find a trunk mount AC system... I'm pretty sure I didn't dream it... but in any case, maybe mounting the unit in some other spot is possible? Under the seat or in the engine bay maybe? Would require some fabrication of course...
