I was told my compressor was seized.

I feel like the shop was trying to up sale me.


How long should they last?

Should I just replace it?

Anyone have any encounters with this?
 
The compressor should freewheel if its not engaged, like when the A/C is off and you aren't using defrost. If you can't turn the center of the compressor and it locks the pulley causing the belt to slip when you try and engage it the compressor is shot. FWIW I had an 05 Tacoma with 75k on it and the compressor failed. My brother in law bought his 05 Tacoma a few months after mine and his failed before 50k but after his warranty expired. My current 05 has 140k on it and the A/C works fine. Supposedly Toyota used both Nippondenso and Delphi compressors on these. My current one must have a Nippondenso.

It prob needs replaced. The AC belt snapped off at some point.
